Yes, I think for a long time, I had like, periods of time where I was either a PC Gamer, or a Platformer, and I think I finally found a nice middle ground.
Mod chips.
I hope to god that everyone on this forum knows what a mod chip is, but if you dont, it's pretty much a little chip that allows you to bypass certain restrictions on a system. So, this gives me everything I would really want on a system. It lets me access all kinds of homebrew, and gives me freedom over my system. Same thing that I like about the PC.
SO, do you platform? do you mod? why or why not?
EDIT: PLEASE, do NOT discuss the PROCESS of modding consoles, keep it in discussional. thanks.

I love chips! Especially with chicken salt.
One more thing, its probably a good idea if you restrict this thread by not detailing how to perform the mods :), since they are a legal grey area.
Welcome to TPU btw.

Please don't discuss and/or admit to piracy. Attempting to be "clever" when admitting to piracy is just as bad. Please review the Forum Guidelines (http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/announcement.php?f=14).

You can run linux on a xbox without a mod chip.

Right, no more mentioning piracy. we'll keep it homebrew. last I checked, it was legal to write homebrew apps, and it was legal to mod an electronic device such as an iPod or X-BOX. sure, it makes my warrenty worthless, and drops the resale value to lower than low levels, but hey! legal... but yeah, no more pirate talk.
YO HO, YO HO, A...NINJA'S? LIFE FOR ME!
[get it, like, ninjas vs. pirates? bwahaha! R@ND0M!]

I think that it's a custom kernel. and yes, for xbl, you dont need a modded xbox, you just need to use a certain game to glitch the firmware, OR, there are some minor hardware tweaks you can do, one of them involving... A MOD CHIP! I wont get into specifics, cause i dont want that hardcore greek mod on me, but u can check out xboxlinux for more info.

Yes, Ninjas are good. Pirates are bad.
Modding your console just breaks TOS and voids warranties, making copies of games for back-up is justifiable. Making copies of games you don't own, whether for your own personal use or for re-sale, is bad.
Those are the fine lines we walk here :) .
