Nowadays every new high performance graphic card seems to be based on reference design, including the heatsink, as this reduces the time to market. The launch of the 7800GTX was not much different, all boards were reference, just the clock speeds were different among the brands. Now EVGA is going the next step, and will be offering the 7800GTX with a huge, custom heatsink:

Don't you wonder if that's just a metal cage surrounding a stock cooler?

ugly.
And it does look like a metal cage over the stock cooler

*g*

I actually think it looks quite nice :)

hmm I don't think that it is just the standard cooler. It wasn't the case with the ACS³ on the Geforce Ti4600. I would still call it "custom" cooler, if it has the stock cooling, but cools better because of the backplate and metal cage...but thats just MHO :)

well I would still slap 2 of them into my rig, just because of the looks (and the performance of course) ;)

cheers
