Basically because I know nothing about any kind of programming, and I have too much school work to learn.

OK, so, I decided to do a little project, and need coders. You need to be fluent in PHP, and know what you are doing. This is for a little online game I want to start up. If you want to help, post here... don't worry, I'll think of something to reward you. You don't have to work like 24/7 on this, just enough to make the game (at least BETA) available some time in the next 9 months. If you want any info on the game, let me know... I have storyline ready, might change it though.

Thanks,

Ben

Bump, it'd be a shame for me to have wasted those 5 minutes coming up with the story, which I am improving...

OK... info about whats needed.

Game will be mainly text based, but may have some flash/graphical elements other than navigation and stats. Server is Linux based, and will stay that way unless the programmers request a Windows server, in which case, I need to ask around. All coders get FTP access to upload the files needed. Any more questions about it, MSN me: benclarke2006 [AT] hotmail [DOT] com

Thanks.

Why not make it a long-term project and learn to program on your own? Start with some very minor projects, and move up. You're still young, you have time to take classes.

I only say this because I don't know how to program either. Me and a friend of mine worked on a light RPG in qbasic once.. And that's about all I know (together with some HTML).

Well, I know VERY basic HTML, that's about it. And well... I have my options and Yr. 9 SATS coming up, so I need to revise pretty much all the time. Plus it'd be quicker if I have others helping.

Isn't PHP for web database? And you need something like VB for your game?

I plan to make the game web based, but I suppose I could maybe write a game in GameMaker or something that uses P2P technology to find other players... but I'd need help with that too.

Oh okay. Well I have a project going too for my course, and one of my classmates in their project is doing the same thing as you do except they partially code their game in VB. They somewhat used bunch of tools like RPGMaker and something. Didn't asked them how they would link it with a PHP Tech.

Well, TBH, any programming language would be good, as long as it can get me started. Because TBH, I know nothing.

Well you need to learn some basics of programming to start with I supposed. 9 months I'm sure you can come up with something. :D

Well... anyone who wants to help, appreciated. In the meantime, I'll try and get through a chapter in "Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days"

In fact, anyone want to write an engine for me? I might end up paying you if I decide to sell the game...

I prefer doing VB myself. Much better for me IMO. Good luck!

Will VB be able to code a game engine?

Yes it is possible.

Excellent. Well, thank god for learn VB6 in 21 days then. Anyone want to help code the engine?

Quake uses C++, and I know 4+ people who code stuff for Quake.

Sounds like an pretty ambitious plan for a novice coder.

We wouldn't happen to be doing a school project for you, would we? ;)

The language used would depend on, well, just about everything. Are you thinking of a single player game? An "instanced" game? Persistent world?

I wonder if I still have some of my phpRPG code around... wrote out a tile engine and a compass function. IE: If you met the Wise Old Man, he could tell you if the Acid Lake is N, SW, or even SSW based on the coordinates.

Well, it's not a school project. I plan to be multiplayer, everone plays together, and independantly at the same time if that makes sense. Persistent world... well, I'm not quite sure. I might add things or take away things based on user suggestions and rate of use. But yeah, I can do a MMORPG with a GUI easy, just need a server to host it on. Anyone want to volunteer?

Well, it does act as a mild stimulant.

Anyhoo, good luck on it! I already have too many of my own projects to worry about.
