Hi all, as ive already stated previously I have Quake wars, and I know it is available on steam. So.. I thought, hey, why not just activate my key code like I do with all my other steam-available games.

There is no reason why this should not work, i have done it with prey, etc etc

However, It dont recognise my serial code for Quake wars as being a valid activation key

any thoughts?

"Retail CD-keys for this game cannot be registered through Steam. If you wish to create a shortcut to this game in your My games menu, please see the Overview: Adding non-Steam games to "My games" list topic for instructions."

Prey's the only one I've found that i've been able to register the retail key on Steam.

figures, ive already added non steam games to it tho, so i know that bit, but kinda sucks coz the cd key matches the format of one of the example keys in steam. nm tho :)

makes no difference actually, for etqw has a built-in auto updater.

Kinda off topic here but I've noticed that there hasn't been a whole lot of talk of late regarding ET : QUAKE Wars!? I remember back around the release date of Battlefield 2142, most TPU'ers were basicaly like "I'm going to wait for Quake Wars" and ET : QW > BF2142!

Personaly, Quake Wars really isn't doing anything for me. Don't get me wrong, nice looking game and it's fairly fun overall but I don't see it being better than BF2142 IMHO. Also, when I think about the original RTCW : Enemy Territory, Quake Wars kinda falls short but then again, that just may be because I've/we've been fairly spoiled by other good FPS since which has maybe something to do with the fact that it is not making as big of a hit as it could have. I've been playing it (QUAKE Wars) off and on for the past couple of days now and it just dosen't hold my interest like the original Enemy Territory did or other games/FPS for that matter. :o

Anyhow, thats just my two cents on the subject!

I know what you mean! This game had a poor reaction. I think the combination with lengthy delays and disappointing demos/beta really turned heads to most people.

Delays kills games...

IMHO, Wolfenstein: ET was the shit. It still remains the best free game available and at the time of release, it was one of the best multiplayer games (even among the ones you had to pay for). With Quake Wars, it is more of the same, just prettier graphics and a $50 price tag. Don't get me wrong, it is a very fun game, but I'm really leaning towards Team Fortress 2 as my new multiplayer game.

Perhaps that's what hurt Quake Wars- being released in the same time frame as the Orange Box. Also, I do believe that the Enemy Territory formula is much better suited to WW2. I'd like to see a Wolfenstein mod for Quake Wars using the Quake Wars (Doom 3) engine on the Wolf:ET levels!
