I'm picking what subjects I want to study for my GCSE's. So far I've picked:
ICT
Business Studies
Physics
Media Sudies
As far as I know, you no longer have to do a language GCSE. Naturally, that list has English, Science and Math on, they're compulsory (though my math teacher said math isn't any more)
Help me choose what else I should take, I'd hate to take these then they turn out useless. This also means I'll be able to start a business officially next year, if I choose to do so, because I'll be studying business, so I get support as I go from the school.
Thanks,
Ben

I think a lot of things will turn out useless, regardless what you choose. ;)
If you can choose Latin, I'd go for that. Interesting and useful. Really. :)

We don't have Latin in my school. Only French, German and a little Romanian, my French teacher is Romanian.

Too bad. I've had more use for my 1 year of latin than 5 years of german and 2 years of french. :ohwell:

Well I'm going to see what's on the list. I should be getting it sometime before Christmas, if the Harry Potter books are accurate.

British exam in our final year of secondary school. You probably call it high school.
And the badge isnt there because this is something that could influence the rest of my life, if the Teen badge is there, people might think "lol this guy aint serious".

Well, you wrote that you've put gum in a girls hair..
That's one of the downsides of the Internet. Most things stay done.

Ben,
What is ICT?
Skip Business Studies - it's pure BS and one grade lower than studying Economics. Reading a couple of MBA books on general management, plus reading the free pamphlets from your local job centre, plus reading the free pamplets from your local bank "business start up pack" will give you more real life experience than BS.
Media Sudies
Perhaps you should take up spelling studies?
What is Media Studies anyway?
Here is some SERIOUS sit-you-down-talk.
Any GSCE that is not going to help you get into a good university is a waste of time. Never mind if you ACTUALLY WANT to go to a good university. If THEY think a certain GSCE is BS, then it probably is.
Think about what you want to be doing in 10 years time... And see what courses will help you get there, via the INDIRECT route.
A foreign language is a must. I would suggest French, given the options you gave. (All Germans in business speak English, plus Germany isnt a great place for holidays). In the modern world, you will not be interesting as a senior manager (in say 10 years time) if you cant speak a foreign language. Alternatively, Spanish, or Latin, or Japanese.
History or politics is also very valuable to understanding people. But maybe that's not available on GSCE. (ps. there is nothing more time wasting than studying Red Indians, or the Tudors and Roses, etc). What's important is modern history, esp. 19C and 20C, and WHAT CAUSED the issues of the times, not what were the "facts" of the time.
Anyway, dont mix study and hobbies. See your hobbies as a SECOND education. I did my 10 O levels like anyone else, AND I TOOK "computer studies" as an 11th for fun... and passed of course. Same with A levels. I did my 5 A levels, and then Computer Studies as a 6th... and passed of course.
Good luck. These are important decisions for your future.
P.S. your french teacher sounds cool. When you are a bit older, hang out with him, and listen to his "life's stories".

I have an option of History, but all we do over the two years is World War 2.

And I think I'll give you a talk in another direction, just to balance it out. :p
Here it comes:
"Success" in life isn't defiened by your job, career or education. You're young. Make a choice your happy with now, and take the future problems when they arrive. In ten years, the world might be beyond or behind everything you believed it would be. Don't be foolish and live only for the moment, though. But realise that the choices you make today don't make your entire future. There's time to adapt, to change, to grow, and you will do all those things.
Don't confuse your job/shcool with what's important. Education don't bring happiness.
IMO, that is. ;)

Well said. School should be closed down. The Internet can give us education.

No.
That's not the point. The point is, and I'm sure you understand this, Your Education Does Not Define You. You're young, be young.

Oh, OK.
I'd rather be mature though, not young... young people are idiots.

That's where Time comes in. I think it's silly to expect anyone below 30ish can stake out their entire futures, and I think it's especially silly for a 13y old. Things happen in your life, physicly and mentally, and things will happen in the future, so I really hate that all these kids think they have to choose their entire lives. None of us mere mortals can do that.
I still think you should go for whatever things you find interesting (also, remember there are many ways of making school more interesting. Like, if you have to write a nice and professional paper on a subject, the first thing you want to do is to find the most extreme angle there is) and don't ponder the future too much. That only brings stress.
