So what did all you guys think of it? personally i loved it and it was def worth the $50.
Portal - fun, frustrating at points but very, very short
Team Fortress 2 - wicked fun, no doubt about it
and of course all the half-life 2, and half-life 2 ep 1 and 2 were very fun to play, just like the whole half-life series!
so post what you thought about it:)

It was what I was waiting for. I got the original HL2 when it came out that came with CS:S and HL1. Now I am going to pick this up to get EP1 and EP2 plus TF2 and Portal. My friend that bought EP1 when it first came out is pissed that I am now getting all that for the same price he paid for just EP1. I told him to wait, but he wouldn't listen. I like the fact that I found it at Circuit City for $38 too. :D

I disagree, I didn't think Portal was all that short. I think Portal was the perfect amount of time with the bonus missions and the regular missions.
TF2: Best multiplayer game of the year, won't be another game to beat it.
HL EP2: Lots of surprises, starting to figure out who the G-Man is.

For the $45 I paid it was definitely worth it. My one grudge is that a week after retail release I could of gotten it for $20 overseas :\

I started to lose interest in Portal towards the end, that's why I think it was the perfect amount of time.

the ending was a bitch, i just wanted it to end and it took forever to lead up to that like 2 minute finale (i think i spelt that right, haha) but great game. TF2 will be the best online multi player game of the year, no doubt about it.

Yes, but I think the main thing to focus on was how amazing EP2 was!!! EP2 was not only the funnest episode yet, but it also had an amazing plot line with many many questions left to be answered for the next installment.
poor Eli, only if he had a metal plate in the back of the head instead of a metal leg...

haha yea, that last cinematic w/ Eli was intense! It was sad to see him go, I'm still not entirely sure why they killed him off, but it definitely set the mood for the next episode... I wonder if there will be a cool way to kill advisors like they did with the striders.

I almost bought this today. Instead I bought another copy of FEAR(Lost my first copy)
But I got the gold version so I got the game, and expansion pack.
I already own HL2 and that's what stops me from the orange box.

On the topic of Portal, thats one fantastic game and if it can be moded to be played online some how even better. What I also noticed was that on the bonus map section theirs a button that allows you to open up custom maps, if they make it so you can download more maps or make your own map OMG:respect:

It would be cool if someone made a random maze generator for portal.

Great idea... Someone with source modding knowledge needs to get on this!

Its not possible :).
You can set random spawn points for players, items etc but there is no way you will ever create a random map generator for a Source based game. It would be incredibly resource consuming, and would take an unimaginable amount of time to come up with. There are so many variables to these maps and they absolutely kill a system to render.
I know, its sad :(

Portal: Absolutely amazing...new concept rocks...far far too short (I completed it in under an hour on my second run - and with bunnyhopping under 45 minutes)
TF2: Soooooo much fun :D
HL2 EP2: I'll tell you when I get off TF2 :P

I'd love to be able to play TF2 and Portal ,but im one of the lucky few that appears to get severe motion sickness when playing any HL2 addon/mod :(
Sold my copy of HL2 on ebay a while back ,gutted as it seemed a great game the little i managed to play of it.
Have tried many fixes and none seem to work.

i know someone like that, it sucks. She can't watch her husband play anything fast action. She said herself if it wasn't for the motion sickness from games, she would play them.

What have you tried? I did some research on that issue and there are many things that people have done to alleviate or elliminate the vertigo.
On another note, I got the OB all load and installed after many hours of 56K modem goodness.
Started with HL2. I forgot how fun I had with the gravity gun, and seeing it in 2560x1600 is even better. Having not played a shooter is quite some time, I am happy to report that I am still a pretty fair shot! Not great, but not too bad. :D

the xbox 360 version of half life 2 has motion blurr (not alot of it but good enough) that should help with the motion sickness as far as seeing everything moving too fast goes

Once I get my HL2 CDs back off my mate then I'll be getting this for sure.
I need to get reacquainted with HL2.
TF2 does look cool but I don't think I'll be playing it for awhile, at least not until Australia gets some decent damn broadband deals going on.

I have tried many fixes including ..
changing the fov to 90 or 100 fromt he default 75
turning off bobbing
dropping the detail and the screen resolution as low as it will go
playing on a 14" screen lol
nothign appears to make any diff :(
for the record HL2 and its addons are the only games on PC that have had this effect on me.
i have played a large list of games online and offline with no problems watsoever including
Duke 3D
Quake 2
Quake 4
ET Quakeworld
F.E.A.R
Bioshock
RTCW
Elite Force
and many many more.
Am gutted i cant play it.
Today i watch a freind play portal ,i was sat a good 5m away and within 30 mins of watching him play i began to feel decidely rough, and had to go and watch tv instead.
I did hear Valve released some kind of fix for ppl suffering motion sickness but not sure if this is true?
but then im not sure id risk buying it again even if they did just in case it did not work.

Xubidoo,
Here are a couple of other things that people have reported as working. I do not know if they will work for you, but it's worth a try.
Change the refresh rate on your monitor.
Turn your monitor at a slight angle with one side farther away that the other. (for some reason many people said this helped)
Try turning your head away from the monitor (this has something to do with your eyes being at a slightly different distance from the target, and they focus differently, similar to previous suggestion)
Try closing one eye (I know you can't play like that, but it will tell you if it a Depth of field issue)
Some people said being farther away, but per your last post I can see that would not help as you were already 15 feet away.
Anyway, I hope you can find something to work for you.

I'm glad I got it. Portal is fun. Its a nice change of pace from the other games I typically play. My one wish is for TF2 to work better be have far less lag.

Portal was about as long as three HL levels. I liked the concept, but...you really can't stretch it out too far, without weapons/a more in-depth plot, or the ability to add user-generated content (which you can).
HL2 Episode 2, I'm still playing, but sadly, it looks about as short as HL2 Episode 1. Such a shame, considering that they did so much work on the graphics engine...
Team Fortress 2 is awesome :D.

Episode 1 has 5 chapters, Episode 2 has seven, so it is a little longer.
The reviews, however, show a bit of dissapointment with the second episode overall.
I've haven't played either because I started over in HL2 so I can play them through, in order.

Lots of stuff.
Consider yourself LUCKY to be sighted and not blind like some people. I know you are very disappointed by your problems... but it could be a lot worse.
Suggestions to try:
1./ Play in a well lit room. Take regular breaks, meaning stand up, walk around the room, adjust your focus etc, then return
2./ Use a regular monitor not widescreen. The "stretching" of reality (or rather the grpahics engine working in a different aspect ratio) can result in warped optical recognition may be the problem to your sickness
>> Many people with astigmatism get sick or dizzy when using a new pair of glasses. It's due to the world "moving" in a way that is different from what their brain is used to.
>> I also had a bad accident falling down some stairs once BECAUSE I was wearing my driving glasses. The problem is that the edges of my vision were being distorted just a little bit, but just enough so that the stairs and my foot were 5cm different from where I thought they were. And hey presto, slip, and twist, and torn ligaments.
Just becareful that a sign of motion sickness is not just feeling sick, but that your coordination is also affected. If you play ANY game and even if you dont feel sick , be careful driving, playing sports, using machines etc. for at least 15 minutes after in case you suffer an accident like I did... ie where things are and where you THINK they are being just 5cm wrong.
Take it easy and good luck :)
