im building my dad a pc and he says he want quad core so i told him i could build him one for under £400 which is hard but i was going to overclock it but i think with a low anount of money its going to be hard, so i need a mobo that supports quad core and might give me a little room for overclocking like from 2.6 to 3!

ideas people :)

I could do that easily if he already had case, DVD, etc.

But building an entirely new (decent) PC with a quad for under £400? Nope, not going to happen

The MSI Neo2-FR is a decent overclocker and cheaper than some P35 boards.

yeh he has a pc but its going to my sister!

i think it can be done its just cutting things out like a good psu and a good mobo, he doesnt care about overclocking so as long as it can handle a quad core even if it needs a bios update thats ok!

Good PSU should NEVER, I repeat NEVER, be cut out. You get one that goes and it takes out your entire PC you have to pay out a hell of a lot more to replace the entire PC than investing in a solid PSU to start with.

It is NOT worth the risk. Ever.

true but most pc's from shops come with cheap psu's and the main reason they fail is motherboard failure, i do agree a good psu is a start if you want a good stable system for overclocking you could use a cheap one and replace it, i havent been many system burn out because of a cheap psu!

get a gigabyte DS3R P35 it costs about $120 US

whatever you get you want P35 board for a quad core or you may as well not get a quad.

IMHO gigabyte is the best overall board for any computer your building. you can pay a lot more but not get anything better unless you look at the high end overclockers boards.
