What worries me about the SOF series is that it really is dead ended, only hanging on it's gore appeal to stay afloat.
I am all for realism through the use of ragdoll and physics. I am fully supportive of what happens when you shoot someone with a 7.62mm round at less than a hundred yards while they have no body armor. It's not a pretty sight, parts of their body may indeed be severed. There's a spectrum to consider. On one far end, you have a possibility of focusing heavily on very deep physics in that shooting person A in the knee cap on one occasion, may have a different result than shooting person B in the knee cap on another occasion. Distance, weaponry, armour, angle(s), the victim's height, weight, stance, and other variables would be considered in the calculation. On the other far end of the specturm is repetitive 'gore' ragdoll physics. You shoot one guy in the knee cap, he loses bottom part of his leg, shoot the next guy, and... he loses the bottom part of his leg. I worry that this game will be more of the latter and while blowing arms off is 'cool' and all, it's a bit old hat these days, and when there's so much focus on that and only that, it really takes away from a game where the environment is based around modern tactical style warfare, as opposed to something like Unreal Tournament where you'd EXPECT to see it.
Let's hope they find a nice balance in that spectrum, so we can appreciate the depth of the pain we inflict as well as the visuals.

well games arn't as advanced yet for those kind of physics, but only because the research would be intense to figure out what would happen to some one if they were shot in the knee cap from 700 yards with an M16 on single shot compared to shooting them in the knee cap with the same gun from say 10 yards. the blast a limb tactic is the best we got at the moment and by the videos it looks fantastic!! i cant wait to get my hands on that, SOF 3 will be a classic i just have that feeling now after seeing footage. We got to stick put with what we got at the moment but by god should we indulge in some brutal headshots!! :rockout:

I still cant remember a more realistic looking headshot than when you done something like dealt a robust sniper round into someones head in the original UT, After that game epic pussied it up.

I have to say i'm disappointed in the review - it only focuses on gore and finds it fun/entertaining but misses the whole point - that this is only optional graphical candy to the game.in sof2 you could turn off the gore and you still had great gameplay, both single and MP.
one key feature of sof2 was the movement dynamics and accuracy: being able to go anywhere on the map and not be restricted to "tunnels" and "corridors". So many other FPS outdoor scenes are still restricted to "corridors" of allowed movement.
I also note that key movement dynamics, cg_pitch and _bob and lean are missing. Its a completely different engine feature set from the original sof1 and sof2. shame, because its not as good... terrible since its 5 zears since the original. If anyone hasnt played SOF2 then I sugget picking it up in the bargain bins. Just persevere through the first 3 levels which are crap... to then get onto some really good gameplay and storyline.

Despite that the series is known for it's gore SoFII was a really fun game back in the day. I played a few levels of it a couple of months ago and it was still fun and entertaining. New technology is just going to make the game more fun and at times hilarious. You never know what you're going to get next in SoFII MP because of the Quake engine and all the mods.
