I want upgrades. :D Particularly memory and video, possibly a boot drive. I believe myself to be in the midrange when it comes to video cards, but memory is so cheap that I'm willing to put in the extra cash for something nice. Boot drive, I'm not sure about since I'm having difficulty deciding on a model.

• Mobo: P4C800 Deluxe (non E) running the last BIOS for it. I can't afford to change this out, so this part isn't changing.

• Power: Antec TRUE430 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103908)

• CPU: 2.4ghz P4: Unless a dual core can fit in the motherboard or you can show me any other CPU with significantly better performance, this one's staying.

• Memory: 2x Corsair VS512MB400: I got it for free and hadn't thought about upgrading it. My system can handle 4gb total. FSB is listed as 200, but specs say it should be 400/533/800. is there a 4x multiplier in there and FSB at 200 is perfectly fine? As in, my memory isn't holding me up?

• Video: ATI/Sapphire 9600 Pro 128: I've started a separate thread for this (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=42508). Please suggest upgrades there!

• Boot: 80gb Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=a4b8ec70fce8f010VgnVCM100000dd 04090aRCRD&locale=en-US): Yeah, this should be replaced especially since all my critical data is on my storage mirror. It's been very reliable I but I have had higher than average HD failure rate. I chalk it up to bad luck and keep my paranoia running at full just in case. I'm not a gamer who needs high performance, but I'd like a bit better than what I have now. What that means I'm not sure since HDs vary so darn much.

• Storage: Initio INIC-1622 PCI SATA/RAID with two RAID0 300gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS: I've lost too much data in the past, so I'm a little paranoid. The performance isn't the greatest, but what do you want for a PCI card? I don't have the room to set up a server, else I'd be running a 2k3 domain for my wife and myself and would put my ISOs and MP3s on similarly redundant hardware on said server. :)

Thanks in advance, and for reading this far! :D

The P4C800 Deluxe is supposed to be one of the best P4 mobo's ever made. Lots of record Overclocks were made on that board.
I have the exact same mobo staring at me right now. Want to build it but no case big enough, LOL. It will handle a 2.8 gig P4 if you got one, and even SATA Raid. RIght now the only memory I only have is lousy 2 X 128 Giel. So, I'm kind of waiting for some funds to get some better parts.

I Have the original Manual and CD, if you need any other info just PM. The drivers and all are still available online at ASUS.

With the help of ebay, or buy new

1./ Get yourself a second hand Northwood P4 at 2.8, 3.0 or 3.2. You will notice a BIG improvement over your non Northwood 2.4. Buy SECONDHAND

2./ Upgrade to AGP X800XT or X1950XTX AGP. Huge improvement over the 9600. Buy SECONDHAD X800 or NEW X1950XTX

3./ YOU CANNOT put 4 sticks of corsair value select in the P4C800. I had the same issue. You need "proper" memory, ie Corsair XMS for 4 sticks. Either be happy with your 1GB, or you will need to swap out your sticks. Buy SECONDHAND. Note that for most applications 1GB is enough. There ARE performance gains by installing extra RAM, but the improvement will not be as much as changing your CPU, GPU and HDD.

4./ I've just bought a Samsung Spinpoint SATA 501LJ. It's doing 120MB/s+ according to HD Tach. This is more than 50% improvement over using the latest Seagate IDE drives. Buy NEW

5./ Curt suggests 7950AGP- I dont know how this benchmarks against the X1950XTX. Anyone got any reviews/comparison of these 2 cards?
