ok, so that was a pun, but hey, I need the release!
? is : What is the difference between the 6400 and the 8500, sold with different ratings
BUT I readthey use the same chips.. and look the same.. so why pay more for the 1066/8500 if it essentially the sam ram?
thanks
the 8500 prob oc more, and you know they will work at pc8500 speeds

DDR2 PC 6400 runs at 800Mhz when DDR2 PC 8500 runs at 1066Mhz if you have a board that runs EPP memory (SLI-READY MEMORY)
PC 8500 with crucial can oc upto speeds of 1200Mhz
better chips. Same type, just a better batch

ok so really there is nothing you are all saying is, they are the exact same spesed chiped labbled differently? the specs
i know, but the reviews show the 6400 at identicle clocks? why sell two ram with there sam chip. or is it?

Same chips but made at a higher clock speed
DDR2 PC6400
4-4-4-12 • Unbuffered • DDR2-800 • 2.2V • (SLI-Ready) when running under EPP profile
DDR2 PC8500
5-5-5-15 • Unbuffered • DDR2-1066 • 2.2V • (SLI-Ready) when running under EPP profile
PC6400 can run at speeds of 1066Mhz but the timing chang and if you want the timings the same then you will need to up the voltage pass 2.2 and do it all by our self, unlike PC8500 one option in the bios does it for you

It's just like there's a ton of diff. CPU models but the chips are identical (like Core 2 Duo E6_00s) but some are rated for lower and some higher speeds. Memory can be speed binned just like that too.

Seems I saw a review of 6400 chips at 1150 wiht tight timings, so I think. naively?.. perhaps no.. that the only sure way is the same system testing two chips ram side by side for speed. If I hit 1100 555 15 I will be happy. No tworried about hte Volts as Have Corsair running mem fans but we will see once rebuild is up thanks again ALL!

There are different batches. Some will not run as fast as others at set timings or speeds. Crucial takes the fastest chips they have and puts them in the 1066 sticks, the second fastest are the 800, then the 667, 533. They want you to buy the 1066 kit because you know that will overclock the best.

PC2-6400 Lanfest NE2KIT12864AL804 use Micron D9GMH (B6-3)
PC2-6400 CT12864AA80E.16FD use Micron D9GKX (B6-25E)
PC2-6400 Ballistix use Micron D9GMH (B6-3), Micron D9GCT (B6-37E), Micron D9GKX (B6-25E), or Micron D9DQW (BT-37E)
PC2-6400 Ballistix Tracer are the exact same chips as non tracers.
PC2-8500 Ballistix use Micron D9GMH (B6-3), Micron D9GCT (B6-37E), or Micron D9GKX (B6-25E)
PC2-8500 Ballistix Tracer again are the exact same chips
So yeah, while they are the same chips, they ARE speed binned.

and in related knews, struggling with the auto volts setting to reach lofty cpu goals , BUT the 6400 "lower" quality chips are screaming fast at 5 5 5 15 1125 stable on "auto" volts and a corsair dominator cooling fan sys! I am happy, if there are faster chips they must be real scorchers... even off the air my chips seem to run on the cool side, again a plus..
Thanks again for helping me, now if I had another set I would line them up and test them!
