Need to know if a certain psu is enough

I'm kind of just measuring the high-end hardware at the moment and seeing if certain power supplies would be ample enough to handle them.
With AMD/Intel and Nvidia coming out with new goodies after the holiday season, I'm just trying to get an idea of how much I'll need when I get the top-end next year.

1x 8800 ultra
Core2 Q6600
Asus Blitz Extreme
4x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers
2x 320GB Seagate in Raid(The safety of data one :laugh: )
X-Fi sound card

Let's say I get this build right now, would this psu be able to handle it? If you have any other suggestions, please throw em out here.

Another thing, I'll probably do very little OCing with the memory/graphics card/cpu.

I dont know much about that brand keakar but heres another great choice for a psu.. (this is the one I may just buy lol).

Price seems steep at the egg on that.. but the sale price is good. I can get it for less in Canada..


and I second on that 2x2gb sticks of ram... Muskin I thikn just released some good overclocking 2x2gb sticks of thier MuskinXP line.

top end next year? at the rate that grafix card power hungriness is growing, you're probably better off with a nice 1kw psu, c the psu guide, link in my sig. for some good brands.

Im hoping they cut back some on power consumption :P well thier doing it with the 8800gt... more performance less power draw:rockout: I hope they keep with this trend, die shrinks are helping :P but I think were going to be 45nm for a while :P though I have no idea how big 45nm really is lol.

well for the high end part, no power consumption loss in the near future looks like lol. i wonder when mobos will require bigger plugs since the mobo supplies the grafix card quite a bit of the power that it uses. i think the new pci standard allows the mobo to carry more power then the other standard, and that might be why the new grafix cards are back at 1 8 pin connectors.

Ok, how will the 620 corsair do on the build If I was going to get an E6850 instead of the quad? AND if I cut back on the ram from 4 to 2GB?

if you want to future proof and have your psu produce less heat, i'd recommend getting a nice 1kw psu, and keep your high end parts. get 2x2gb memory instead. less power consumption, less heat, less strain on the mobo, better ocing. also if you want to squeeze out some money for the better psu, get a 8800gtx since the ultra is basically an oced gtx.

That psu is enough, but a few of these guys do make good points, if you don't mind spending a few extra $$, it doesn't hurt, especially if you want to expand further later.

I think the corsair will run that fine, its a great psu.. double check with Wile_e if you want I think he has experience with that psu... I thin it will run the whole system with quad just fine n dandy.

yeah, he should be able to pull it off, but he wanted an element of future proofing and for that, i dont think the corsair will be up to that. how many amps does it have anyway?

lots lol like 50 amps. :O my psu has 38... but I was on a tight budget when building my 1st comp.

Edit: get that pc power & cooling.. Im sure you wont be disappointed in the slightest... thier #1 in power supplies and its only $10 more than the cosiar 620 ;P.

yeah, its exactly 50amps, thats enough to power your system. but if you're gonna do sli or expand in the future, a more powerful psu is needed

I don't ever plan on getting dual gpus I don't think, since it doesnt give enough performance to warrant the extra gpu. Same goes for the quad, I plan on only getting a dual-core next year. I'm in between a hardcore and softcore gamer, I play PC games about 20 hours a week.

I have a Corsair....and it is AWSOME....the rails NEVER! change...and it is quiet and stuff!
But the Silencer 750 like Chewy said is a awsome PSU....maybe even the best Price/Performance/Efficency!

That PSU will be fine and you could probably go SLI in the future with just that PSU, the Corsair's awesome. But, that Tagan that keakar posted is a better PSU. At 60A over six rails it's got Quad core and seriously high-end SLI or X-fire covered...

Also, please don't buy an 8800Ultra, just get a GTX and overclock - the Ultra is a silly premium to pay for.
