Hello there,

Over the last few days I'v been trying to overclock my ATI card using the ATITool, But after restarting my computer and then going to run a benchmark test I check the details to find my graphics card mem and core are back to default, why?

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/williams3/atitool.jpg

I left the ATITool program to find the max mem, after a few mins i seen the temp of my card go up is this to high?

Also Im wanting to overclock my cpu, But I dont understand changing the voltage so will it be safe for me just to turn the FSB up in my bios? if so what shouldnt I go past?

If anyone of you had msn or icq that maybe I could speak with that would be fantastic.... thanks!!!!!

1) Your default speeds are 412/365 - I can't see why it would default back to those given that your 2D and 3D profiles are set to 420/381 and ATITool is properly shut down.

2) 78C is very hot, what cooling methods are you using on your video card? What temperature does it operate at idle and under load when at the default speeds?

3) Is your 3000+ a 333MHz or 4000Mhz version? if it's a 333MHz version, you'll probably get a better overclock since your CPU is running at 166MHz and your RAM can run up to 200MHz. In either case, you can try upping the FSB by a little bit, running a Prime95 torture test, rinse and repeat. You should really google for introductions to overclocking, so that you can gain a deeper understanding of what's really going on.

sersalpha thank you for your reply, As you asked what methods am I using for my vid card, well I have a 7faned thermaltake case and its idle temp at default is 71 / 72 underload, this is the first time iv seen it running so hot after I overclocking it using ATItool. Im now using Radlinker to overclock as it saves my settings when i boot.

Can i ask how far have other ppl taken there core and mem settings?

Thanks again

When he said VGA cooling, he meant direct cooling, not how many fans you have in your case :p Have you changed the fan on the card, or is it the one the card came with?

Those default speed temps are ridiculous, mine runs at ~60C with a VGA silencer. To cool your card better buy an Arctic cooling Rev.4 ATI silencer 3. This will lower your temps, it's really easy to install and will allow much higher overclocks.

I haven't OC'd my card yet as I'm waiting for a Silencer 3, but when I get it, I'll post the results somewhere obvious. ;)

PS. Tell W1zzard in the ATI-Tool forum about the clocks resetting.

I have a 9800 pro which defaults at 380/340 and I have it 100% stable @ 470/380 at ~60C under load
