Hi!

ReadyBoost in Vista uses USB-sticks for the pagefile - arenīt they much slower in reading and writing that regular harddisks - so ReadyBoost canīt make anthingy faster!?

readyboost uses usb sticks not for pagefile, but for super-fetch data that cannot fit into ram itself.
And reading lot of small files from thumbdrive is still lot faster than from disk.

You can buy 'ReadyBoost' enhanced USB memory sticks, but Im not sure if its just a gimmick tbh. Because the USB sticks speed is dependant on the PCs USB port (ie USB 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0)

I also think ReadyBoost isnt worth trying if you have 2GB of system RAM or over anyway ;) (so Ive read, but dont quote me on it lol)

PS: this may help you - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost

it gives you a nice boost i believe, your usb stick has to be fast though.

Yeah, flash speeds vary greatly from stick to stick, but usually have some pretty good access times, .5ms - 2ms. Also, it's trying to read files from both the ReadyBoost drive and your hard drive to reduce the load times.

Though I'd rather max out my boards memory before putting money into a ReadyBoost drive. That's 4GB or 8GB for most current 1P boards. And 4GB kits (2GB x 2) start at $160 or so.

i paid 18 bucks for a 2gb ocz rally 2 flash drive after mir. and its freaking fast, and it works for readyboost, sweet drive, but i dont have vista so i cant really tell how much of a performance increase it is. and yeah. max your real memory first.

A Vista capable system with USB 1.1 ports? That would be interesting. The thing is, some USB sticks have really low access times(under 1ms), that's why they're used. It doesn't really do much good though.
