What's the best free version of Linux that I can use on my File Server? By free I mean NOT a torrent link...

Plz include a link to the Download site....

In case there's a hardware requirement,

AMD K6-2 500MHz
448MB PC133 SDRAM
10GB Maxtor HDD
2MB Matrox MGA PCI Graphics

Thanks

fast free legal linux torrents. lots of linux companies use torrents as an alternative to getting expensive servers and shipping out cd's

Server version's only main differences are, not having a GUI front-end as standard (unless they added one recently, they didn't include it before, to save resources), and including options for automagically setting up a LAMP server (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl)
If you're uncomfortable with command line though (dunno if you mentioned this somewhere else or not, but jsut as a suggestion), get desktop version, and install packages as necesarry.

Server might also have other stuff different, I know, but I can't remember them atm :P

There's a lovely little button, usually called "stop" or "cancel" :P
Either way, the command prompt is simple enough, and if you need help, the Ubuntu forums are awesome, got my MX510, G5, and generic bluetooth mice working fully, because of it, along with a whole host of other components, that didn't like Linux. Got help on configuring it all, etc. helpful people, and should help conquer the command prompt.

Yeah, just canceled it. Besides, it was going 22.4Kb/s LOL!

Ouch, yeah, woulda taken way too long.

If your system's a golden-oldie, then you may wanna take a look at Puppy Linux, or Damn-Small Linux, they're both pretty damned good mini-distros, full graphical interfaces, and not given Puppy much of a chance, but DSL is great, has a built-in HTTP server, and there's a package manager which works quite well, should have quite a lot of programs to install.

Actully, I think I should do some research, look at the specs on the server on first post.
