Western Digital or Samsung HDs?

Is there much of a difference in these two? Figure I won't see much of a decrease in the next week on these HDs anyway so might as well buy now.

I would go for the samsung, the latest spinpoints are exceptionally quiet. Either will be fine though, just stay away from Maxtor in my experience.

I have some samsung that I'm happy with, oh and I just bought a great samsung washing machine - not that, that's really relevent.

My pick is Western Digital - from experience, they seem to be amougnst the quietest of HDDs (except for the Raptors :laugh:). Very stable, too, never had any problems with one - OE or aftermarket.

My personal preference, though, would be to recommend a Seagate HDD. Especially out of the Barracuda lineup.

WD also has 16m cache drives.
why does everyone say raptors are loud? i have owned one for the last 3yrs and ive never heard a noise out of it.

maybe ppl are upset cuz @ 115$ for 36g theyre not cheap.

for me first choice would be WD and second choice?

WD caviar are the best harddrives under 500 gb, at least as far as I can tell. all of our workstations use wd under 500, seagate over 500. raptors on weapon systems.

Yes i know i have 2 250KS's with 16MB but i did not see a 500GIG 16MB drive at newegg.

in my country western digital got the 1st place in bad hard drives i buy one of 250gb and it suck great performance but those hard drives dont suport electrical downs i go for the samsumg..

I've had drives from WD, Seagate, Maxtor, Samsung, Hitachi, Fujitsu. The Samsung drives were by far the most silent, followed by Hitachi and Western Digital. If your looking for Silence, Get one of those brands. Avoid Maxtor drives, mine are fairly loud.

the extra cache i have never noticed any differance from 8 to 16MB.

lol, you caught me red handed, i didn't check the links lmao. but i dont think theres that much of a performance difference between 8 & 16 mb though the extra cache isn't a bad idea!
