iexplore always running...

iexplore.exe is always running in my task manager. If I am actually using iexplore.exe, there's 2. I think it's a virus or spyware. I did a search for iexplore.exe with the built-in windows search, and all it came up with was multiple, legit iexplore.exe's (all made by Microsoft Corporation, or so says Properties...) how do I get rid of it?

try using sysinternals process explorer http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processexplorer.mspx

post some screenies of iexplorer.exe etc etc and i'll try & help

I have had that before hat, and it was a virus!!!

Whenever I opened up iexplore after a couple of minutes I would start getting hit with spam, more iexplorer windows would open with adds n shit in them. Whenever I ended the task in task manager, it would start again straight away... I couldn't get rid of it, so I just reformatted..

Not saying your is a virus yet...

Try killing it in task manager and see if it starts again.

Dude, it's a virus or some sort of malware. I've been using avast for the past year and Spybot S&D for the past 3 years, both programs are free, and I would say that they are better than most pay-virus/spyware protection.

I ran Spybot, got rid of some Win32 things, and Munga_Bunga (:roll:), but iexplore still loads up at start..

iexplore.exe is a great Trojan....SPYBOT should remove it. If it doesn't then remove all IE Explorer(add/remove), Run "Search" for IE explorer files and remove, then registry cleaner (Ccleaner).

Reload IE explorer or use Firefox. should work. :toast:

try not downloading porn in the first place, I haven't had a problem with viruses/trojans in a couple years :laugh: of course Spybot and CCleaner are run regularly as well though

bottom line is explorer shouldnt be running unless your doing something on the internet so if its not you then its more than likely a virus. it may be something you have set to run at startup, maybe something you just added or updated has an update thing thats checking for updates on startup.

iexplorer.exe is a known virus(trojan)...it's the only version that runs at startup.:toast:

actually I'm not sure about that...If I do a fresh install with my CD I have to go to MS to get Internet Explorer. Maybe it depends on the version of the OS.

Nah.. explorer.exe is always running. That is your desktop. But ieplorer.exe is internet explorer and is/should only be running if you have that app open... :)

I could be a virus of some sort, they do like to hide themselves like that, simply because your virus scanner probably won't stop to think about a file of that name running.

If I were you hat I would just double check that your pc is not uploading/downloading data from the net while you are not doing anything... who knows what it could be doing if it is..

It may not be a virus but I would probably uninstall iexplorer and remove (manually if you have to) everything to do with ieplorer and then reinstall it.

I think that, if it is iexplorer.exe, you may have a virus, if it is iexplore.exe it is the Internet Explorer running.

It's iexplore.exe not iexplorer.exe. And it's always there. When I start IE, there's 2 of them.
Hm... there's a new one, 17PHolmes536.exe... I did a google search, no results. I did a search on my pc, no resluts. ?

Bump. Looked at 17PHolmes536, and Pancho's program said it was coming from c:\windows, but it wasn't there. The search function turned up nothing. It was set to look for hidden files, and I have explorer set to show hidden files.

Pah, this/these viruses were FAR from worth it. It was a cleverly hacked version of WinRAR... :/

I just deleted all iexplore.exe's not in program files/internet explorer.

I would have done that a long time ago if it was possible...
Deleting all iexplore.exe's except the one in program files/internet explorer did not cure the issue.

AVG found two trojans. Nice... :/
Now to reboot. See if that gay little iexplore.exe shows it's ugly binary agiain.
