Why? Why not wait till AMD gets these things right? It's like AMD's first Manchester dual-cores all over again! Low OC's, leakage.

On that link it says that the 9600 is 95w and the 9700 is 125w!!!! There is only 100mhz difference in speed though.....
I hope that is not an indication of the way these things will oc...
Can anyone tell me why there is such a power difference??
Sorry for the HiJak Damulta ;)

Yup, they finally have a 65nm chip with new architecture and 4 cores, should be good :D

hoping it will be good. erocker has made some, albeit rather strong and harsh, observations that hold true. Perhaps holding off a generation (rev, etc) will make it all the more worthwhile?

I believe it to be so. That's why I'm waiting. What? Do you think I'd go out and buy an Intel chip or something?

I love AMD truly but I am going with the Yorkfield 45nm, AMD only deserve my money if they can offer a product that either competes bang for buck relative to performance or exceeds the performance of the opposition for a releative higher price, my guess is that this aint going to happen (but hey guesses can be wrong), I just have this sinking feeling that the Phenom will struggle yo compete with Intels current 65nm quads, never mind Yorkfields

komplett.co.uk is based in uk i believe, they have their main warehouse and RMA testing facilities in norway
anyways, the unlocked 2.3ghz phenom (black edition) is due to be released this year according to what was said on the review of the phenom 9900 on the front page. I may get that and oc the hell out of it, or just wait till nxt year for a proper fx, oh noes!! decisions!!!

i dont know why but i have a feeling that AMD aren't showing what the Phenom is really capable of - yes i know about the test review done on tomshardware but that was an experimental chip not the real thing. of course i am most likey wrong but it would be awesome if this was the case.

umm... just read, again, on that 9900 review, that its bleedin 140W max tdp :(
I quote:
"When it comes to power consumption the 140W Phenom 9900 likes to consume a lot of energy At full load it topped the charts at 345W and at idle it ran 197W with Cool'N'Quiet enabled and 243W if it was disabled. The new Intel QX9770 for example is has a higher clock frequency and more cache, but runs nearly 100W lower at idle. Keep in mind that the Phenom 9500 and 9600 will be 95W parts, but we didn't get to test those."
im not happy about this, maybe I would be better off with the phenom black edition, and just trying to bleed it dry with what ever oc it can do?

I haven't even seen a 9900 chip.
I'm going to get the 9500, and I hope I can order it this week(namely today)
I will be going out of town and my dog likes to eat things.

actually, on the overclocking part of the review, it gets reasonable....
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/597/12/
the chip overclocked to 3ghz stable, on air!
so we can hope for much better on water or TEC cooling (im gonna TEC cool my phenom)
also, their engineering sample chip was apparently bugged and a bit iffy..
at stock, 2.6ghz it got 5.8 on vista performance index

I don't know if I'm going to run a TEC. I'm going to order some of those new blocks from DD.
If I get a phase in the spring then that's what I'm going to run. Now my buddy wants to help me make some dry ice blocks, that should be fun if I do that.
I also have a Window A/C that I plan to make into a water cooler, if I get time I am going to start on that tomorrow.

I am also wishing to go 9500, and now im also thinking of semi watercooling....
but my main question is why doesnt newegg.com have any of the Phenom CPUs up yet... i really wanted this system by this weekend...

Is it likely overclocked to be as quick as an overclocked to say 4Gig 65nm Q6600 G0??

I would say not, firstly, thats 45nm, and has been in development for a while, this is AMDs first quad, and first quad on 65nm (obviously)
intel quads have gone thru alot of development and refining, so as long as the phenom can overclock decently and hold its own as a good, well priced gaming component I cant complain,.
It wont be the "best" quad, but then again, if it gives solid gaming performance who cares?
100 fps compared to say 150 fps, the difference? nothing
hell, I would simply be very chuffed if i could get a nice overclock, past 3ghz, and got a solid 60 fps in games with settings maxed out. :) (and at last bleedin remove the bottleneck from my gfx card)

No I am talking about the current kentsfield quads....65nm, these were also first gen albeit we have seen a couple of stepping revisions, I was kind of guessing that the Yorkfield 45nm quads due out in Jan would be quicker but I am surprised if you think that Phenom wont be any better (read faster)than the current Intel 65nm quads

Primarily I am refering to intels current ability to afford insane overclocks with their quads.
Im just not sure that such an early stepping etc from AMD can overclock quite the same, hence intels will be faster overclocked
Im not stupid, its reality. Im hoping that AMDs quads will overclock well, but im even surer that further steppings and revisions will show us great things
