I dont know why but about a week ago it started taking windows forever to load.
it will get past the scrolling lines and the just be a black screen for about 2 min, and then the windows thing will come up and it will be normal. idk, ran virus scan, drivers are fine, reg is fine. could it be a ram voltage issue?

what the startup speed like in safe mode?
Defrag. Check your startup list. Disable some services you don't need.

ive done all that except defrag...i hadnt thought of it, and will check it
Yeah, you probably installed something and that was just the spark that set off the "OMGWTFBBQ SLOW LOADING" time bomb. Use Defraggler (http://defraggler.com/features); I've long been oblivious to the fact that Windows Defrag is a joke until I used this. After a fresh Windows defrag, this thing found that about half my files were fragged up. o_0

It was due to voltage problems

defraggler apparently doesn't support 64bit os', i used windows defrag, and of course that didnt do it. anyother 3rd party defrag programs?

i have been using O&O for quite awhile now and it works on x64 and x86 versions. and you can opt to have it run stealthy in the background to keep every thing frag free!!

I sound like a broken record on this, but delays like that are usually hardware time-out related, such as a DVD, CD or other drive that's not talking properly to the controller.
The last time it happened to me it was a loose DVD cable.

well about a week ago did you have any virus or program you deleted?
im thinking you may have something missing like a .dll or a file that isnt there containing something needed.
also as Sasqui stated, never overlook the obvious, unplug and reconnect all data cables.

Go into your windows folder and find the temp and prefetch folder and delete everything in them.

no not the folders, just everything in them. although you might not be able to delete everything in the temp folder as windows might be using one or more of the files. so you might have to delete them (the files in the temp folder) one at a time, and just leave any that are being used and not able to delete.

nope deleting the temp files didnt do the trick
oh and there are no errors or anything in the event log that would have to do with startup that i noticed

Did you delete everything in the Prefetch folder?
Also, if you are planning to re-install Windows follow these installation steps
1. Service packs (make sure you have sp2 1st)
2. DirectX
3. Motherboard/chipset Drivers
4. Vid. Card Drivers
5. Sound Drivers
6. All other hardware drivers
7. Windows update.
(you may have to make your network drivers 1st)
