I had a monitor that did 1680x1050 native resolution and it looks pretty good, but I'm wondering which would be better overall, they seem similar enough. I know 1680 is wider...but really not by much. Also there are a few older games I play still that don't handle widescreen resolutions and therefore would have to be play at 1280x1024 with bars around the edges. I tried to search for pictures comparing gaming widescreen at 1680x1050 vs 1600x1200, I can't imagine you lose much perspective, or am I wrong?
Also I plan on building a new system very soon, is the 3870 powerful enough to play games like Oblivion, Bioshock, Company of Heroes at these resolutions with a generous amount of settings on?

My 2900 XT does, so the 3870 will. I run Oblivion heavilly modded 1680x1050 everything on and I get around 69FPS outdoors and 117 indoors. Bioshock is the same.

This is the HDTV (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889022025) I use as my monitor and play on as of now. Actually, it literally just sold on eBay for $490 about 10 minutes ago. So now I urgently need to pick out a new monitor. Also I decided to go with 1680x1050, I think I would have went with 1600x1200 but I realized they all cost much more than 1680x1050. So if someone could help me pick out a good one, over 20", stable stand (I hate wobbling when I'm typing, my old Acer did that). 1680x1050 would be ideal, and as cheap as possible (Definetly under $300). Thanks for the help!

Heavily? Do you use Qarl's Texture Pack III with 4096 LODs?
@Orbitz,
do you have a preference for PVA panels instead of generic TN films?
If you don't, then what you're looking for should be as simple as browsing Newegg or similar.

Hm I don't because I don't know the difference. But if you'd like to educate me I'm willing to learn the difference...and maybe form a preference =p My grandma always said, better is better than better (Toward her more senile years of life).
