Can someone please help me:respect:......I bought a P4 3.2GHz HT s478 for my second rig. The description said "a few bent pins".So I thought what the heck I'll give it a try. I received it and I lined my all the pins and it went into the socket fine. It powered fine too. So when Windows loaded I opened cpu-z. Guess what...It wasn't running at 3.2GHz(200*16) but only at 1.6GHz(100*16):banghead:. My motherboard is an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe and PC4000 DDR Crucial ram so I know that it's capable of running that. What must I do to make it work right?

unBENT PINS-------Done--------Not fixed
Reformatting and reinstalling Windows--------Done---------Not fixed

Any other suggestions are welcome

yeah defo check the bios settings, see what your board sets it as default. How did you come accross the chip in the 1st place

BIOS is the latest and has been reset. Ok I noticed something else. When I shut down or restart the computer my screen shows "no input signal" message. In order for it to start again the psu must be turned off by the switch on the back and on again after some seconds. That's the only way

Oh and since I can't change any bios settings due to the above problem all options are on Auto

try using a different monitor to get in to bios.

try using a different monitor to get in to bios.

I don't see any point to that. The monitor starts fine and gets into bios after switching on/off the psu. But whether I change or not anything in the bios, after a restart or shut down it won't start again except if use my psu switch

hmmm only fsb thing i can think of that'd relate to your system is that the bsel connection might've broken. the bsel would tell your mobo what fsb strap to use (like 533/800/1066,etc), perhaps a bsel mod might fix it?

FSB jumpers? I know other Asus i875 boards have them. Otherwise, it could be some pin not making contact, one that controls FSB. Look for mods and see if it's possible to half FSB by covering pins.

Actually there IS a missing pin. OMG i hope that's not it. I'll look in the manual for the jumpers

you should be able to bsel mod it for higher speeds, my guess is that you might have a broken bsel link (hopefully we'll be able to make a new one that'll work) or its a bios/mobo thing, check the jumpers as banjo has suggested

Sorry for my Ignorance here, but is a P4 a pin style chip or does it use the samw style bottom as the 775's....Just asking as I fixed an opty with 2 pins missing ,with some gold craft wire cut to length and stck into the socket itself!!!!

hmm, interesting fix for a broken pin sneeky, i think this might be the solution to his problem. as for the pin style or 775 style? obviously if it has broken pins and all its a pin style p4

let me look and see if it has a GAGUE of the wire I was using , so you may be able to get some!

EDIT: It is 24gague nontarnishing gold grafting wire, came out of my lady's crafting box. I just cut it to lenght by pushing it into the socket until it bottoms out and cut to the level of the top of the socket. Sent said opty to LiNKiN , and a bit of wire, he also has it runnin now!

One guy I meet went to a gold-workshop (Selling expensive clocks and gold stuff kinda shop) and asked them to solder one broken pin from a CPU - and guess what - it worked out - must have been a very skillful guy in that shop.

Areed there as I also tried a gold jewler, and he kinda giggled at me on the 939 and said he didnt think he could do it....hence why the DIY style pin setting!

I beleive that according to this it might not be that pin's fault

do you think i can get a partial refund? The item's desription said nothing about missing pin....only bent pins

Only problem I see with that theory is that it has been stated the CMOS was cleared....with that action comes automatically the setting of AUTO to the CPU already, so it would be running the correct speed now then correct?

i would check to see what motherboards rated fsb is. if its only 533 or 400 than your 800 mghz fsb p4 is going to half itself.

Yes the P4C800 Deluxe is rated for 800MHz FSB

Guys also please read the review on the bottom of that page. I have done that but i saw no optimize or anything different. It just went into the bios

i would check in the bios to see if it has your fsb set correctly, if not than i would guess its that pin, you can find a diagram of what each pin does if you just search google, especialy for an old chip like a p4. just use the diagram to see if the pin thats lost is something important.

you should have a system default selection or something along those lines of Optimal system setting...Pretty sure thats what the reviewer is getting at with OPTIMIZE!

I found what made my pc not start in the first place. It's probably my mobo's fault. I changed the default 200MHz to 133MHz and it worked. So now it is working @ 2.13GHz(133*16). But why is this happening? Motherboard is more than capable.....I guees the cpu might be a bit responsible too. Also can anyone help me find a diagram for my cpu to see what the missing pin is for?

Whats the cpu voltage displayed in the bios. Do you know the voltage the cpu should run? May be set the volts properly to cpu default volts (or .025mv higher) and put back ur fsb to 200 and see if it boots.

I have tried it but I'll try it again later today with max volts
