Ok I'm hung up between the Dell 24 inch (Ultrasharp 1920 x 1200), and the Dell 22 inch (Ultrasharp 1680 x 1050). Now can someone tell me the difference when watching media such as 1080p movies?

2" bigger screen so slightly bigger image. Nothing much.

Well technically, for a true 1080p image reprduction, you have to have a monitor capable of handling that resolution (1920 x 1080). So the 24" can do a true pixel for pixel representation of the 1080p movie. The 22" cannot support that high of resolution so it will have to resize the image.

It may not be noticable to a lot of people, but it is a degraded copy of the original in any event.

If the xbox360 can output true 1080p, then the 24" can give you a true pixel for pixel image.
So can the Dell 27" and the 30".
Actually the 30" can do up to 2560x1600.

Any monitor that can natively display 1920x1200 can do true 1080p (or 1080i for that matter).

Any monitor that has less than 1920 x 1080 reolution will have to resize the image to fit it on the screen.

How would it look then. I'm in the same boat right now with this decision making too. Mainly between Samsungs though. What happens though with the 360? Does it apply letterboxes since its 1080 output is in 16:9, not 16:10 as the moniters do? Will it look like this? (please note this is only for demo pic purposes)

At the very top of the post, I hate having to relink images.

What I am wondering is does the 24 inch do what the moniter on the left is doing? Where it is letterboxed at the standard 1080 resolution, or upscaled to fit the 24 more, like the on the right.

Basicly, I'm wondering the quality difference between the 22 and 24 on the scale of gaming, HD playback, and plugging in consoles: 360, PS3, ect...

for me personally i cant justify the big difference in price with the small actual difference in screen size. 2" sounds like a lot but its measured diagonally so a 2" bigger screen is really just under 1" wider when measured horizontally. many monitors have a really BIG price jump from 22" to 24" so when you think about how much more screen your actually getting, its hard to justify spending that money.

I must say bomb, these people are idiots! Just on the first 2 pages, there was no mention of HDMI or DVI cables. I'm afraid this thread didn't help. I'm still looking more through it to see what happens...

Either way the 360 doesn't have an option for Native 1680 x 1050.
