View Full Version : How to ship a TV?

I shipped a 32" Olevia HDTV at a Staples by my house about 6 months ago, it has a UPS Store in the back where they package and ship out. So today I brought my 32" Olevia HDTV (I had 2, just sold the second), and was basically told they don't have any boxes big enough to package this. To top it off I was told they've never had any ability to package something this large and didn't believe me when I told its been done before. So I lugged this large TV there for no reason and wasted my time and I need to ship it ASAP.
There is another "real" UPS store that handles pretty much anything, but it costs about 5 times more than the UPS Store in staples for some reason. Even heavy packages in Staples cost about $30 to be packaged, insured and shipped. So I figure the cheapest way was to somehow package it up myself, then ship it off at the Staples since they can't handle the packaging. But where on earth can I get a box to ship this in? I don't have the original anymore. According to NewEgg...
Dimensions (W×H×D) 37.8" x 22.2" x 9.4"
Weight 35.5 lbs.

There should be packaging/office stores in your area with such boxes. Call around.

Or you could dumpster dive some packing materials and do it yourself for free. I haven't bought packing material in years. Just find a clothes store, or better yet, a furniture store and there is a GOLD MINE of packing goodies.

Arg thats too much work JC haha, I have plenty of stuff its just a single large box is the problem. I'm trying to find websites that sell them, I found one but it requires you order a minimum of 10 boxes. GRRR!!!

Again, get into the dumpsters, thats a mainstay for me, especially when I am looking for a large box.

One time I went to the UPS Store and they didn't have a big enough box, the guy got creative and combined two boxes of the same size and basically slid one over the other. He put tons of tape and it got to my buyer in perfect condition. I'm thinking of doing this too now, god forbid something happens...thats what insurance is for =p I've never had something damaged in shipping *knocks on wood*, when insurance needs to be claimed, is it the buyer or seller who has to go through that process?

I actually have another shipping question for you smart people out there. I recently sold some old PC games I don't play anymore between the $10-20 range, I offered free shipping as incentive to get buyers and it worked well, most of the stuff was bought with Buy Now for 19.99. So I want to keep as much as possible obviously, what is the cheapest way to get something like a CD in its jewel case to where it needs to go? I'm guessing USPS, but what exactly should I buy/use there and how much will it cost?
The cheapest way is to look up thier address, step outside, and throw the case as hard as you can in thier direction.
