Is that possible that my card is so low end it's having problems displaying the ful res of my monitor? it keeps showing artifacts as in a few spots across the monitor aren't diplayed. i know there not dead pixels because they are all fine atm. but any time i load a page it artifacts or play a game (although i really can't play anything atm)
also i'm not using the dvi cable it came with...i'm using a dvi-d cable
it came with the middle cable.

well first, you should tells us which model 7300GS it is (memory)
even despite whether it's the 256mb or 512mb model, it sounds like the memory (most likely, though it could be the core) isn't coping well with 1920x1200 and overheating

its evga 512mb
does atitool tell you temps for it? if so check them out at the different 16:9 resolutions and see how the 1920x1200 temps compare to what you were running it at before

i would second that it just isnt good enough, maybe clocks are too low or something, but maybe im talking out of my ass

it would simply be laggy/stuttery if the clocks were too low/the card couldn't handle it
I really think some part of the card is overheating due to the constant stress of running 1920x1200

I can't imagine it having too much of a problem with that resolution in Windows. However games would be a completely different story. I suppose, as I see you are running vista, that it may have a hard time running Aero.

but wouldnt a higher clock help to decrease the stress?

doesn't areo only work on DX10 cards?

k sorry :)
Got a fan you can aim at the card to cool it off to see if it fixes the issue? You could even use a good old-fashioned box fan and take the side door of the case off.

Yeah, my guess would be that Aero is overheating the card.
The little POS heatsink eVGA put on their 7300GS is hardly enough to keep the think cool under constant stress for very long.

lmfao:laugh::toast:
Anyway, the little itty bitty heatsink is probably the cause, if you can even call that thing a heatsink.

holy hell, yeah that pic of the heatsink settled it newtekie, I was picturing the HS evga uses on the 7300GTs in my mind which is at least marginally better, covering the memory and all

He'll know when he goes to fire up a game, of course maybe he will just freak out and think there is something wrong with his 8800.
You know...that would make a very funny prank...
