Every overclocker should keep a card to use if they blow up their current one, what's yours? I bet mine's the worst of them all, I have no idea what it actually is, all I know is it's made by S3 and the driver says it's a Virge DX/GX. I got it a few years ago from my uncle when I blew up my PCI Radeon 7200, so it's pretty damn old. And it's so damn slow that I have to overclock it for it to display the desktop at an acceptable framerate at 1208x1024, it actually lags at stock clocks. Of course with overclocking comes heat, and in this case I almost burnt my finger when I touched the bare chip after some time. So I made a heatsink/fan combo out of an old NB cooler and a random fan I had lying around, then I just soldered the fan leads directly to the PCI +12V trace (It had holes in the PCB already) And now I present to you, the Frankenstein PCI card:
http://www.1pixelhost.com/files/urvzeholr3c9iwstfaem.jpg (http://www.1pixelhost.com/)
Runs cool as hell with this, and if I blow my X1950, I'll see just how high this thing clocks. :D

It's never come outta the box but I started breaking out in a rash at the weekend, couldnt understand what it was, was getting real bad, then my daughter moved around some stuff in my study and the ATi card was moved into a spare room....the rash cleared up real quick! I moved the box back into study and within 20 minutes the rash broke out again so it's gotta go I'm afraid, I am allergic to ATi graphics cards....thats a fact! :rockout:

I have an artifacting x1800XL in the closet. I never did get around to BIOS flashing it, I was too afaraid I'd kill it. I should probably break it out and start using it now that I know that my problem with the system crashing was ATiTool and Punkbuster not playing nice.

Actulay it played Oblvion quite nicely. At 1024x768 With max view distance, Max Trees, max buildings, and HDR. I had the grass on low and the tree fade was a little less than half way, water detail was normal, with Water Ripples on and window refection on. I had the Blood decale on normal and would occacialy play it with AAx2 forced. I would get like 20FPS more or less. Oh and I also did some modfications of my own in the oblvion.ini. Game looked preaty good. I was happy with my good ol X1300.

You'll lose badly in the race for the worst backup card, Madcow.
I have a SiS 6326 PCI card, with 8 MB VRAM. Well, this thing has sufficient juice to boot the system with a Windows 98 CLI boot-CD, to flash my video-card's BIOS after a screw-up. Also to start the OS and remove the nvstrap driver set by Riva Tuner.
If my video-card goes RIP or needs to be removed for repairs (and for me to continue work on the PC), I also have a spare GeForce 6800 XT based card from my other system

Well all I can say is that on my rig, with my gfx card even at non voltmodded speeds I can play the crysis demo at 16xx x 10xx at MAX detail. full AA/AF and it's as smooth as silk and thats the truth but surely you aint buying a card for just one game lol.
Now everyone tells me that crysis is not CPU dependant, so the fact that I am running my CPU at 4Gig should make no difference (still find that a little hard to beleive, ever heard of a game that does not rely on CPU power to some degree?) but I was running the demo in DX9.

On my 3rd agp machine I've got a 5200 I used to use and technically my 6600le is backup because I gave it a bad flash and haven't figured out how to get it back to normal. That 6600le was a great card at the time, and it wasn't that long ago either.

Ordered a 3850, so my current 1800GTO will soon relegate to backup duty (or possibly running my family's new pc if they decide they want one).
Current backup is an agp GeForce 2 MX 400. It's good for...Jedi Knight 2!
But seriously...

Perhaps you could superglue my old MX400 onto a bare piece of PCB on your mobo.....thats surely would then classify as "on board" :D
Yes, it would be onboard. lol. :D

No Photoshop skills, dude. W1z really has all those cards. He writes reviews on them and so biggie companies keep sending him engg. samples.
Yes I know this. It was sarcasm. ;)

Nyaah! The first one, X1800 is X1800 XL, not XT. X1800 XT doesn't have a single slot cooler as a reference cooler but something similar to the X1900. There's a X1950 XTX before to the HD2900 XT also there's that white-ish one X1900 GThttp://forums.techpowerup.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10863&stc=1&d=1196313651

I tried removing the HSF of an old TNT2. That ripped the GPU off the BGA. Waaaah!

Hehe,
i did the same thing with an x800xl and arctic cooling 5 HSF. The RAM chips just came straight off with the thermal pads.

I have several video cards that I can use as backups, but I make sure to keep 3 cards in a safe spot in case of a bad video card bios flash... my PCI based Radeon 7000 and Nvidia 6200 along with a PCI-E x1 Radeon x1550. The x1550 seems strange to plug that into a motherboard because the PCI-E x1 slot is so small.
