Ok, i'm new here to these forums, I have read for days on how to flash the bios for my Radeon 2900, but I can't completely understand how to. Can somebody please explain to me step by step on how to do this, reading from everybody, and everybodies different ways of doing it is just confusing.
Thank you.

Id love to reach those kind of speeds with my 2x 2900XTs :) But I dont think mine could go that high because I get a system lockup when overclocking above 823/900 in CCC Overdrive

You can use [url=http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/ATi-Radeon-BIOS-Tuner.shtml]rabit[/b] to edit the voltages yourself, and you can edit fan duty cycles, clock speeds, among other things I believe.

Ok I ended up using the Quantum Force 2900 Editor. I flashed my BIOS, and I set my voltage to 1.35. The max core I can overclock to before it shutting down is 831MHz. The memory is up to 1024MHz and still going. Can you guys suggest anything, do you think I am where I am supposed to be, give me some feedback please.
Thank you.

Alright guys, i'm running across some problems here, maybe the card might not even be good. I did the bios flash, I ran 3d mark everything is ok, temperature, running beautiful. Now, all of the sudden I can't run any game, it will crash as it loads up. I usually get like particles on the screen, or the screen just freezes. Could this be anything else rather than video card related? Maybe RAM?
Please help, any feedback is appreciated.

u flashing ur bios to change voltage or clock or both? To what clock do u change? If too high with stock voltage, maybe it unstable.

What cooling are you using? 1.35V is too much for the stock cooler. Also, try 999 for the mem. The timings automatically loosen above 999, and (on my card at least) 1024 won't make up for it. If I push the mem too hard, I get black splotches on the screen.

maybe 1.35v cause more heat, so u cannot get higher clock

OK first off i'm on the factory cooler.
Default Voltage the most I can get was about 813 core, and memory only like 838. Once I flashed, I set it at 1.35 volts, and now I had it at 831/1024 without a problem. It ran fine everything. Now all of the sudden it is not, I have already brought it down to 813/838 like when I had defualt voltage, and it still crashes.
When it crashes it is running like at 80-85 degrees celsius. Thats not hot enough for it to crash don't you think?
I'm thinking maybe it could be RAM related or something, because before it crashes it starts to like get choppy (low FPS) while it loads, and then when the game starts up thats it.

Go down to 1.25V, and work from there. It may not like 80C with 1.35v. Both excess voltage and heat will cause more voltage leakage from the transistors in the gpu. Combine both together, and it may just be overwhelmed.

I already flashed it with the default BIOS, and nothing. For some reason Catalyst Control Center does not run. It is running in the background, but I can't get it to open up. I think my problem is either driver related or windows related. I defragmented the drive not too long ago, maybe a windows file got lost somewhere in between and I've had a few shutdowns from the overclocking and such. So tomorrow im'ma go ahead and re-install windows, and the drivers and see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted.

Hello everybody,
I helped chicken lower everything down to default settings. We did notice that catalyst control center does not start with windows and when you try to load it it simply does nothing. We have tried almost everything, we have reinstalled the drivers too many times to count & we've also reinstalled framework, visual ++ and direct x. The computer seams to run stable during 2d operation; its not until it tries to switch to 3d that it crashes, I still believe its catalyst causing the problem but any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Agreed - However i have a HIS 2900xt 512mb and a Sapphire 2900xt 512mb in crossfire and I'm using the HIS bios for both.

Wile E has it right. 1.35 is just to much for the stock cooler (in my experience)
My cores are maxed out at 870 @ 1.3V with ATI tool set to try and keep gpu temp at 70C.
Memory is currently set at 950 but I'm sure I can raise that easily.

When you uninstalled the drivers, did you try running Driver Cleaner Pro (or something similar), to remove all the remaining traces of the old install?

There are probably still renegade CCC commands in the registry. I suggest you download and use Registry Mechanic (http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/). I've been using it for years and never had 1 hiccup. I can't be 100% sure that this will solve your problem but I can guarantee it will find some of those CCC commands left over in your registry. I have been using it on every Cat release since Cat 6.X (when I had similar problems like yours) and haven't had a problem since. The best way to do this is:
-uninstall Cat
-Reboot
-Run Driver Cleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) or Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper) to remove all ATI/CCC drivers, etc
-Run Registry Mechanic and delete all problems it finds (make sure you enable "create a System Restore Point before Repair (XP)" under settings. Then remove all entires it finds.
-Reboot install Cat

Ok, now I re-installed windows, and still no CCC. What the heck? Could it be the card, although I wouldn't see why. I can actually play NHL 08, I treid Crysis, and Call of Duty 4 and I can't play those, they freeze while loading or right at the beginning of gameplay. But still why wouldn't CCC run. Something tells me its the card, something tells me it's the drivers.

Ok, it's been a while since I don't update, but here it goes. I ended up re-installing windows with XP 64-bit. After days of tweaking and installing programs and crap, finally the machine is back up and running. Now finally CCC works, video card is fine and everything runs great. I went ahead and bough 4gigs of DDR2 800 RAM, and boy did it make a difference. the pc used to take a crap while running Crysis, now Crysis runs without any problems what so ever at everything high and 1680x1050 resolution. Anything else you guys can reccomend me?
