If you ignore the bad romance novel pun, the iYule really does put a fireplace in your pocket. You can install the iYule on various digital devices, including the iPod, iPod Touch, Zune, Apple TV, Xbox 360 and of course computers (as a screen-saver). When initiated, the clever 30-minute looping track is a full-screen video of a crackling log fire, complete with crackling, popping, and sizzling sounds from a fire recorded in HD. It also comes with an intriguing piano soundtrack, but you can choose to get a version that does not include the music. The iYule is priced at $5 for mobile versions, $7 for the PC/Xbox 360 version, $7 for all versions sans music, and $10 for every version available, with "bonus features". 10% of all proceeds from the iYule will go to charity. You can see a full flash sample here (http://www.virb.com/cali/videos/31736), to help you decide whether or not a digital fire is your kind of thing. If you'd like to buy your very own iYule, please go here (http://iyule.tv/).

Thats very nice...charity...whats the point of having a simulated fireplace in your pocket? It's not like it warms that part of your body and/or anywhere else you put it such as your hands so that it warms your hands but that doesn't work so seriously, whats the point????

I wonder what the "Bonus features" are?

Is that where the simulated fire covers the simulted chiminey with simulated creasote from simulating burning too much simulated pine instead of simulated oak, and starts a simulated chimeny fire?

It was very hard to resist the urge of titling this news "IYule Puts A Burning Log in Your Pants".

I appreciate the post, but I want to point out we're not giving all the proceeds to charity. We're giving 10%. That's what we were raised to do.

Our Web site never says we're giving ALL the proceeds to charity, but people started blogging that, and then other people are getting upset, so I just wanted to clarify! :)

By the way, the fire isn't simulated. We tried doing a simulated fire last year, and...well, it looked simulated. This was shot in HD.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification. I will update the news entry to show this. I'm truly sorry for the confusion about the charity donations...the sources I had available to me at the time certainly made it look like you guys were giving all proceeds to charity :p.

Regardless, good luck putting HD logs in people's pants :D.

@zekrahminator: No worries! We've just been getting killed all day in the blogosphere with people saying we're trying to mislead people. :) I appreciate you making the update!

No problem, I rarely get the honor of talking to the people who are behind the news I write :).

Hope you stay a while, TPU really is a fun place to talk about tech crap/chill. Malware and I, among several other newsposters, are responsible for keeping the site full of interesting current events to discuss. We're very big on contribution here. TPU is now, thanks to you, a great place to get logs in your pants....
