I wonder if it will save voltage settings and such for my x1950xtx, .27 b2 would not, .26 would just fine. I have a bios modded atm, so I use ATI Tool for fan modulation. But glad to see you're still updating and supporting one of the greatest vid card utilites W1z!

Moin W1zzard,
Thx!
p.s. tolles Programm weiter so! ;)
:wtf:

Amazing... I have been a long time user of Atitool and have never joined the forums until now. I just want to thank you for all the hard work you are putting into Atitool and how much it means to all of us!
I have HD3870 and the beta3 Atitool works just great! The "find max mem" and "find max GPU" are working great! Setting the clocks also works fine as detected through Rivatuner's monitoring tool.
I'm sure you;re working on it already, but I would like to see fan control and, of course.... voltage control :P The BIG issue with these HD3870s is the block at 857mhz for the core. I wonder if it really is a voltage issue... hmmm...

Hey Wiz, you have a 8800gtx, i would never had thought that :p:
Is there a reason for no further R600 support, if i may ask?
Hi, i m reporting a bug and making some comments.
The bug :
my config
C2D 6600 non oc, msi ati 2900xt, vista ultimate edition 32, asus p5b deluxe, cat 7.11...
i cant use dynamic fan override control because it starts working nicely, but when t° is warming to superior level, fan goes faster according the programmed %, but when t° is getting colder (2 or 3 °C under t° level), fan speed doesnt decrease to previous %...
when i reload my profile (the same actualy), atitool detects the t° and set speed % to the correct value... someone has any idea?
other fan control modes are OK.
The comments :
when i m using fan control mode 3 (try to maintain t°) % fan speed is set to 31% to 51% to cool GPU, or 13% normaly... is it possible to setup normal and cool % to other value? replacing 13% by 25% i.e.?
Next step is testing GPU OC but waiting for new watercooling system... thx in advance for your advices and remarks

Hi,
I've just installed Ati tool 0.27b3, everything is ok except one. When I set at first VDDC and after that frequensy of the core, VDDC is go back to its default settings. This is a problem, becuse when I try to push the core first I have to give it more power, but in this case I can't set higher frequency over that the core can work with default voltage.
I'm with HD2900Pro 1GB, Cat 7.11, win XP x32.

Havent tried clocking it yet as 3DMarks are giving me issues ATM...Want to run stock benchies B4 I clock. Seem to be in order for my 3870 so far....will post back with OC results later.
Findings after messing a bit:
No fan control
No monitoring abilities...try to set it and causes hardlock
OCseems to work and apply, verified with everest!
can you describe the problem a bit more?
Sure W1z :)
Clocks cannot be applied to either adapter. Also when selecting the second card the default clocks displayed are the 2D clocks rather than the 3D clocks (as in the case of the primary card), same situation in Riva. If you try to apply clocks to either adapter the clocks decrease and then the primary adapter no longer shows the 3D clocks but the 2D clocks - same as the secondary card.
I am using a 2900 CF setup, both cards are flashed with a custom BIOS (847/947) using Shamino's Quantum Editor. I have tested with ATI Services both Enabled and Disabled. I didn't test fan or voltage settings in CF mode, I'd be happy to do that and get back to you with my findings.

First off, I'd like to join everyone here who is thanking you, W1zzard, for this great tool! When I run "Find Max Core," though, it will never detect any artifacts even when they are very visible. Under the "Artifact Scanning" tab in the settings I have tried using the default slider position and the left-most "More artifacts detected" position. I am using this on Windows XP SP2 with a Geforce 7600GS and Forceware driver 163.75. Thanks for your help.
BTW, are there any plans to have a seperate slider for overclocking the shader clock?
UPDATE: Apparently I can't change the memory clock either, and if I use "Find Max Mem" then ATITool freezes.

I want to start off by saying im very new to this. I have been overclocking CPU's for years but now just wanted to OC my video card.
I have Vista 32bit with an X1900XT
I have the 7.11 Drivers WITHOUT CCC
(I did get a error when it started up saying that for the card to work correctly I need to enable the ATI Services... not sure how to do that)
I have made 2 profiles... 2D and 3D and they switch when I go into a 3D game.
the Stock for my card is 625 / 725
I OC'd my video card to 641 / 756 and upped my voltage to 1.3 then I saved it as a 3D profile.
and my 2D is 499 / 599.
when I go into a game the volts jump to 1.45 and it remains at 641 / 756 for about 5 mins... then it drops itself to 625 / 725 stock settings and lowers the voltage back to Stock voltage... Why is this?

Hi W1zzard,
thanks for updating this great tool, been waiting for this quite a while. Only drawback is it still doesn't work on my Mobility HD2600. I've read on an other forum that it actually worked but once he updated to the 7.11 drivers it stopped working. I'm currently running the Crysis Hotfix drivers and whenever I try to set the clocks to a certain value it just jumps back to default clocks...
I'm going to try out with the 7.10 drivers in a second even though I'd prefer having the 7.11 ones on my pc as they gave me quite a performance boost.

I'm hearing changing the 3d clockspeeds on a HD3870 is not working with this beta.
Also the voltage tab is not available. W1zzard do you have some time to fix this problem ? I'm getting my HD3870 6 dec. I can help you test a fix if you want.

@ XS they had problems with the clocks. Rivatunner seemed zo clock way higher. And there was no voltage tab. That last one is very important :P because people are maxed at default voltage and we wanna see what this chip realy can do. 1 GHz core here we come :P

New to the forums.
The new ATI Tool looks very promising for the HD 3870's. I'm having a temperature problem with my Sapphire HD 3870 where I will get close to 90C while gaming. My idle temperatures with the card at 50C. I would love to use ATI tool to control the fan speed instead of Rivatuner. Always have been an ATITool dude ever since my 9800 Pro.
Please, I beg you to keep up the good work and make the fan controls work for the 3800 series :).
My kind regards :)

Been experimenting a bit with the Tool now and am really happy with how relyable it is (it never even crashed once); what I find strange though is that the max. memory I can reach is 540mhz, with AMDGPUClocktool I can reach 570mhz with no artifacts. All in all the GPU seems to run hotter with ATITool running than overclocked with AMDGPUClocktool.
Anyone knows an explenation to that? :ohwell:

Thanks Wiz!
It seems to work. With 0.26 it used to start without showing clocks quite often. Now I have rebooted twice and both times it shows clocks right and can overclock them.
But.
Why it doesn't show VRM temps and current? I have MSI X1950XT. It also conflicts with AtiTrayTools (must first overclock with AtiTrayTools, then with AtiTool, or it hangs).
W1zzard,
Thanks for the update. ATI Tool has helped me max out the potential of the last few video cards I've owned. It's especially useful for adjusting Fan speeds with third party coolers.

=============================================
My results using 0.27 Beta 3:
When adjusting the Memory or Core slider, then pressing "Set Clock", the slider goes back to original clock speed.
ATI Overdrive states 850 MHz Core, ATI Tool: 843 (note that ATI Overdrive slide only moves in 5 MHz increments.
ATI Overdrive states 1251 MHz Memory, ATI Tool 1251
ATITool Memory and Core clock values don't update when I change them in ATI Overdrive, but will display the new values if I shut ATITool down and restart it.
GPU Temperature display pretty much matches ATI Overdrive stats.
Fan Control Settings sort of work. When setting fixed percentages, the value doesn't always change the fan speed when "Apply" is pressed. Using audible cues and fingers behind the output : 0, 25, 50, 75 100 always seem to work. Going from 100 to any value greater than 76 doesn't change the audible fan noise... (it's like a hair dryer at that speed) Going from 76 to any value greater than 51 doesn't change the fan speed. However, if I'm at 51%, the fan speed won't increase with any value input from 52-74... entering 75 will then speed up the fan.
Sometimes after checking the "Dynamic" feature and then switching back to "Fixed Percentage", pressing "Apply" after entering a value like 100 won't change the fan speed, it sometimes may switch after a delay though.
================================================== ======
My Comments.
The 3D Scan is *much* better than the ATI Overdrive "Test".
Memory artifacts are readily visible in the ATI Tool scan in the 3D window when both programs' automated check doesn't catch any errors. Unfortunately, with neither check I've never experienced the test catching a core clock error... I've always froze the screen (goes black) when increasing the core clock over the limit, so can't comment on that with the HD3870
Fan control would be one of the most useful features to get working with the HD3870 since the default fan mapping is optimized for noise and makes me uncomfortable with the temperature the GPU runs at. ~90 degrees C

For bigger OC I thing voltage control would be one of the most useful features too. But it still doesn't hold the voltage changes when clocks are changed frequency of the GPU (it goes back to default Vcore). It would be nice if @W1zzard fix this problem, if it is possible.
Everething else works correctly on my HD2900Pro1GB :)

I went to vista x64 a while back and havent been able to use atitool. I had a x1800xt which I used this tool to set a few small records in 3dmark03 thru 06. Now I have a 3870 which is a awesome card. I have been able to reach 875-1361 without ati tool. I am hoping that now that I am able to tweak with it again I can break that barrier. I havent posted here in the past but I had to redo my account so I could say thx for the hard work you put into this Wizzard.
So far no errors. I will post back with results. I think all I need now is the modded 3870 bios to reach higher gpu clocks.

MadDias
12-01-2007, 03:28 PM
I didn't test fan or voltage settings in CF mode, I'd be happy to do that and get back to you with my findings.
u have to disable crossfire before setting clocks to the secondary card in atitool. u also have to enable a monitor on the secondary card to be able to overclock it. the correct 3d clocks will then be reported for both adapters in atitool.
i didn´t really do any testing with overlcocking, cause i got lockups when applying 830@1,25v/930@default to both cards and wanting to run 3dmark06 in crossfire mode. even the artifact scan locked up, maybe it´s my 700w psu.
i wish it would work as it has done with the x1xxx series cards in crossfire. always enabling and disabling cf is a pita.

artifact scanning working
temp not working (i don't think there's a sensor)

Yeah the fan control does not seem to work at all. The fan duty cycle display changes when you set the fan speed in ATITool, but the fan itself doesn't change speed. I can change the fan speed with Rivatuner, and ATITool's fan speed display picks up the change. But ATITool's own fan speed control does not work.
Everything else works fine though.
Dam, I'm still having the same issue with Vista 32 and X1800XT 512. As soon as I run ati tools my screen artifacts, monitor loses signal and then get a BSOD with atiumdag.dll mentioned. No matter what I do it does this...weird.

Hi all,
I finally got a solution for my Vista x64 trouble with ATITool, works fine for me:
First of all, I have Driver Signing permanently deactivated (uninstalled KB932596, KB938979, KB938194 and KB941649, then " bcdedit -set loadoptions \”DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS” " and " bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON " and "Code signing for device drivers"="Ignored" in gpedit.msc).
The older drivers (till 0.27 beta 2) successfully started only every 5th boot. I found out if you deactivate and re-activate the "ATITool Driver" from Device Manager and then try relaunching ATITool it works and you don't get the "Kernel Mode Driver not working..." Popup. But you had to repeat this procedure up to 10 times till it worked sometimes, pretty anoying.:banghead:
The new 0.27 beta 3 or 4 have a new Device Driver that has no trouble starting up at boottime anymore!:respect: But the 0.27 b3/4 ATITool Program doesn't really work with my x1950XT, it shows 0/0 Mhz like some other ppl reported here, when "Driver Level overclocking" was active (only way to overclock because of the 3D-clock-switching). So I installed the 0.27 beta 4 and copied over the "ATITool.exe" from version 0.27 beta 2. Now everything works like a charm. Overclocking, Fan Settings, Temperature output to MBM5 aso. I never have trouble with non working ATITool after reboot/startup anymore. So I call this a solution :D.
One Question: I saw that the new driver from b3/4 is signed. So is it now necessary to have Driver Signing deactivated (either F8 at boottime or the procedure above) any longer? I think the day is near that we can say "ATITool is Vista x64 compatible" :rockout:

That was the next quest to be solved. No "Voltage Control" tab in settings.
How does ATITool decide that? And is there a way to get it for the x1950XT?

Running Vista Ultimate X64. Beta 4 loads and runs. Loaded as administrator, run as administrator. Shows proper GPU temp, lower temp switches between 0C and 99C. Shows same memory speed as set in CCC ATI Overdrive, but core shows 850 while Overdrive shows 857. Find Max Core, Mem run but never change clock speeds. sliders can be moved but when I push 'set clock', they return to original values. If set ot 'Apply Clock Immediately..', cannot change core or mem speeds.

Use Driver Level overclocking (x1000 Overclocking in settings), if that doesn't work, read the post #116 ;)
w1zzard tnx for always making atitool, great tool...
i got a question... why do you have to make those big steps of frequencies in atitool and not just 1 mhz? it sometimes annoyes me cause u can't finetune your card...
also my OC:
core 830
mem 2300
can't get my core higher. does anybody has a solution? already tried 2.5 vddc:P
tnx
Edit: found a bug.... probably everybody already knows but it's a really annoying bug... if you change voltage and then change your clocks the voltage is set back to default value... and my card locks lol.... hope it's going to be solved thanks already!

i have a 3870, and i have the same problem as ALP, whether or not i use beta 3 or 4, i just cant use the tool to get a overclock.
All the other monitoring is there, i can see temps and have fan control, no voltages as of yet, and i havent flashed the card either.
I have tried other settings in ati tool, i have even reinstalled ccc and not enabled overdrive, i love this tool so i thought i'd pass on my info to help make it better:D

Have you tried the .exe switching after installing b3/4 with the one from b2?
It solved this problem and almost everything else, except that i have no Voltage Control in settings. Any1 give me a hint plz, i want full control over the card :D

hello:)
the link for beta 2 is dead for me > here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=33447)
can anyone point me in the direction of a link for beta 2 please, and i'll give it a go :)
I think (hope) it's no problem if I upload it ;)
It's only the exe from beta 2.
And don't forget telling if it works, would be of interest here ^^

i tried your file with beta 4 and with beta 3, i did in the end find beta 2 @ guru3d and used that, all it did was crash ati tool every time.
Funnie thing is....when i run ati beta 4 i can see my clocks and if i change them in ccc they change also in ati tool, so i guess i can still use ati tool to monitor temps and fan speed, apart from that i have no voltages and no clock settings to use with the 3870.I can use ccc to clock with which i will do for now ;)
hmm, maybe the beta 2 didn't support the 3870? Since mine is older (x1950XT), you gotta wait for beta 5 :banghead:

I only have a choice for HD 2000 Overclocking settings, and no choices ther make a difference in how it works.
Version 2 did not work on my 2600 XT either. It DID set the clocks back to the original speeds, instead of what was set in ATI Overclock. The biggest difference was that when I tried to change clock speeds, it took 25% of my CPU(s) for about 5 seconds before reverting back, instead of immediately reverting back to original speeds.

When a profile is selected, either by starting ATI Tool (with profile loading switched on) or by loading it manually afterwards, the voltages are not set according to the profile. They are set to the default values every time. The fan & clock speeds are set properly, however.
The voltages are however, stored correctly in profiles.ini and can be loaded manually from it on the Voltage Control page. Checking/unchecking the "Disable Driver Voltage transitions" option in the overclocking page makes no difference.
Note that with careful tweaking of the clocks, core voltage and temp/fan thresholds, I can have a 2900 Pro that performs like an XT and remains quiet at all times. :) Who said these cards are loud?
W1zzard: this is my first post here and I'd like to say that you rock for giving us all this awesome utility. Thanks! :toast:

I remember a similar problem i got with 0.26 storing Fan settings into profile.
I played around with the Properties for the profile (uncheck, save, check, save the "This profile stores: "Fan Settings") a couple of times till it correctly restored them on profile load, but I'm sure you tried that...
So I think now my exe switch b3/4->b2 works ONLY for x1950xt or maybe very close "family members" then... I'm glad it helped me.
To summarize my "understandings": with ATITool 0.27 beta X there is no Voltage control possible on x1950XT cards

Yeah, I tried the check, save, check thing, but no dice. The correct voltage values are going into the profile, but it just can't read them from it when loading a whole profile.
I also have an X1950XT and I can't set the voltage on that either. It felt odd that and I suspect that was able to adjust the voltage on that card with an earlier ATI Tool, but it was a year ago, so I'm not sure now.

After I made my post, I saw some references to 0.27 beta 4. I found a download for it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4109.html
Installed it, but it didn't fix the voltage problem. I don't know why W1zzard doesn't update the forum to reflect the new version, which is over a week old now.
Ok solved my problem with Voltage Control with downgrading .exe to 0.27 b1 (with 0.27 b4 driver). I Have full control now :rockout:

Alp, your a genius! I now have voltage control with vista64 and X1950XT 256mb sapphire. Been testing and here's what I have so far. I can set voltage and clocks, when I run 3dmark06 the clocks revert to stock 3d settings (621/1800) but the voltage stays the same, when the 3dmark is switching tests it goes back to 2d clocks and volts. Now here's the interesting part, when the new test starts it goes back to stock 3d clocks but goes to new voltages I set (1.450 core instead of 1.40). Any ideas on how to keep the new clocks. I know ultimately once i find my oc I can flash the bios on the card but until then I cannot even test the oc without being able to keep new clocks when 3d starts up.

Btw, I have exact same card (and OS).
I had that same thing too first. U gotta set driver-level overclocking on first. Then u launch a 3D-App (f.ex. a Game then minimize) which set's the card to 3D Mode and only then u can play with the clocks / Voltage and save afterwards into a profile while still in 3D mode. Then, if the Profile loads even in 2D mode, it will take over-clocks when switching to 3D but stock on 2D, guess that's the best way overclocking. U don't even need different 2D-3D profiles like this.

Alp: that beta1 exe didn't work for me. If profile.ini is present, it instantly locks up the machine with a black screen and a flickering pattern. If it's not present, then it just crashes with a standard Windows error message.
I'm sure the problem is caused due to the later dll being incompatible with it.

Ok, heres where I'm at, I need to have driver level overclocking unchecked in order to adjust clocks, I adjust clocks and volts then save to a profile. Then re-enable driver level overclocking and my profile loads fine in during all 3dmark06 tests :). So I started overclocking, I've reached 722.25/981.00 and here's where I run into a problem, but it's not stability, lol. I use the same process as before and set to 749.25/990.00 and when 3d mark starts for some reason it goes back to 722.25/981.00, even though I saved the new setting to the profile and everything, real odd. Any thoughts?
Edit: After rereading I think I need to be a little more clear. I'm using the monitoring tool from rivatuner to see what my clocks, temps, and volts are while in game or running 3dmark06. I can successfully set clocks to 749/990, but when 3dmark06 starts it goes down to 722/981. WTF? Anybody? WTF? lol

That's the same I get when I start ATITool and a profile with overclocks is loaded and driver level oc is off, OR when I start ATITool during in 3D Mode. I think it's because the 2D Voltage is kept in these cases but clocks are set anyway. Interesting how different ATITool reacts by switching exe :twitch:

After finally getting ATITool to work in Vista, it just won't change the clockspeed.
I do raise the sliders, then click Set Clock, and after around 3 seconds the clock speeds above the sliders just jump back to default without having changed anything, no matter what clock speed i set.
Any ideas why? ATITool seems to work properly, or at least the monitor does.

W1zzard I attempted installing Catalyst 7.11 again, the ccc still did not show but I think it was functioning since it showed in my processes. The fan control does not work with it and the 3870. I also noticed the fan control only works (7.10) at a % amount and only certain numbers: 23,45,60, and 100%. Riva tuner seems to have issues with the fan control as well.
installing atitool 0.27 beta 3 on a system with 3870 installed results in temperatures goes bannana, the fix i have found is to enable Fan Control > Override fan speeds

Hi All,
Firstly, please excuse me if this problem has already been fixed - I couldn't see an answer for it when I read the posts. Secondly, this is my first attempt at overclocking a graphics card so I am in unfamiliar territory - please excuse my stupidity on certain issues.
Ok - I downloaded ATITool 0.27b4, installed it and it came up fine. when I try to slide the sliders, they just reset, regardless of whether I do them individually or link them together. I tried putting the values in manually, but nothing changes in the Current clocks windows. I tried running Find Max Core for over 8 hours, but it didn't finish due to a power failure and didn't appear to have done anything in that time (should I run it again and let it go 'till it stops?). When I look in the log file I get really weird stuff like:
2007-12-10 01:10:19 I Find Max Core started...
2007-12-10 01:29:09 I Scan aborted. Total runtime: 1129 seconds. Artifact-free: 1129 seconds. Core: 7425.00 MHz Memory: 500.00 MHz
2007-12-10 20:19:29 I Find Max Memory started...
2007-12-10 20:36:34 I Scan aborted. Total runtime: 1025 seconds. Artifact-free: 1025 seconds. Core: 600.00 MHz Memory: 8675.00 MHz
That is weird to me because the core shows as 600.00MHz and the memory shows 500.00MHz no matter what I do. Also a website that did a review on my graphics card said he could only overclock it to 725 on the core and 1025 on the memory (for that matter, he said the defaults were 625 core and 900 mem - nowhere near what ATITool shows).
Once again, please forgive me if this is all really obvious stuff, but I am completely lost and could really use some tips or help.
Don´t know about any sense (I'am to new in this area).
Supose it´s a driver thing but I have no ide. Someone earlyer in this thread, with HD 38XX, talked about fan speed with catalyst 7.10 (kind of work) and 7.11 (doesn´t work) vs atitool.
Kind of strange because I can´t use catalyst 7,10 at all.

Ok, I'm on water cooling so my temps are awsome. I'm currently using volts (in order they appear in atitool) 1.475 2.233 2.233 1.891. Load temps are 47-49C. It's so wierd that I can set everything just fine in atitool, use rivatuners hardware monitoring to see whats really going on during 3dmark or a game and it's fine up till 722.25/981.00, after that if I set it to 742.25/981 it will set just fine but as soon as 3dmark starts rivatuner hardware monitor shows it drop back to 722.25/981.00. Real odd. Guess I shouldn't complain too much 722.25/981.00 is still a heck of an overclock.

Installing Atitool 0.27b4 on an Ultimate x64 os went perfectly. No nags! I don't do overclocking but I find the Atitool ideal for fan control. But it seems that my Sapphire HD3870 and the Atitool can't agree with each other on fan settings. The profile loads at startup
and in 2d (bios 60 degrees 30%) profile 40 degrees 40% and you here no change in fan speed. In 3d load the bios juist reacts and at 80 to 90 degrees the fan spins up. I'm not having any atrifact or freezeup problems with my system at this moment. When I start
throughing games at this system more control over graphic card would be nice and I can image it would admirable over overclockers too.
W1zzard if you can figure this out, Inzide and others would be very grateful.

Using beta 3 from W1z's OP and I can't get Voltage control to stick for my 2900XT 1gb in vista 64. The voltage does change (confirmed by rivatuner) however when a 3D app is launched it goes back to default, so close yet so far.

I post my impressions about ATITool 0.27b4 on my HD 3850:
- Fan control is a little buggy (it has a strange delay applying fan speeds).
- OC feature causes black screen (manually setting any core/mem clock, setting to defaults or trying to find max).
- Scan for artifacts feature works fine.
The rest is perfect :)
BTW using a fresh install of Windows XP Pro x64 Ed w Catalyst 7.11
EDIT
Also tried in a Windows 2000 Professional fresh install. Same issues :(

I love ATiTool too, been using it a long time.
Thing is it doesn't apply clocks to HD 3850 cards under Vista x64. I can run the slider up where I want and when I hit apply it just resets to stock.
The cards are capable of 760|999 and I have to settle for 730 from Overdrive. Rivatuner will OC one to 760 fine and it doesn't get the other.

winxp x64 on hd3870
Wohuuu, thanks w1zzard & PowerTechUp ofcourse..
damn, was afraid already that I'll never see this great code ever build to vista x64.. :toast:
ps. and that false 0/0 hz detection is because of Nvidias beta drivers 169.xx works fine with 163.75 (Also with all latest titles). Tested here with 2 comps now one with 8600gt and 8800 GT. :)
Although doesn't show fan speed % and gave some error on temps however it still shows correct temps:
card on that was 8600 GT (Gainward golden Sample) G84 chip..
Ok, finally got my MSI 8800GT 512 OverClock Editition. Appearently I can't install any driver lower than 169.02, especially the 163.75 describen above, it keeps saying I have no compatible card or something. And the 169.02 isn't beta anymore but it doesn't work with ATITool, same for 169.12b or 169.21b. No Clock/Fan/Voltage Control or Mem Timings only Temp Monitoring works. Btw, of course I tried some exe-switching aso from versions b1 b2 b3 b4 again with no success this time either :ohwell:. Just tah let u know...

Have to thank W1z for atitool, it's the only one keeping the 3800 series cards from mellting down right now. (fan cowl sticker not included). The amd.ati partners should be kicking in for all your hard work. They don't seem very bright. :P
Can enable fan while messing with different options when 'Show 3D View' is on.. or maybe it's just the delay. Either way.. i'm sure you'll figure it out :)

ATI tool isnt showing a "Fan Control" tab for me at all... Also when i go to properties & check any of the check boxes like for Fan Settings, or anything else that isnt already checked it won't stay checked, ill press ok & then go into it again & they will all be unchecked. I have no way of setting my voltages or memory timings either other then by modifying the system bios directly when i start up my PC.

Well, more info here about the black screen issue with ATITool 0.27b4.
It seems that this bug is somehow related to the Catalyst built-in overdrive feature (or I think that it is so). When windows is started normally, the core is lowered due to the overdrive (no CCC installed nor any ati services started, but the overdrive works anyway Oo). If the default clocks are forced via Rivatuner, then clocks can be applied via ATITool too, and either max core-mem finding utility (but it's still a little buggy, because if when it's scanning max core/mem I try to open firefox, causes black screen again...).
I noticed all this stuff messing up with the new Catalyst 7.12 in Windows XP 32-bit. I hope this info might be useful for someone.
I think it's very good that 2D clocks are used (heat, energy, global warming etc. :D). I told some times in this thread, that I could only overclock while in 3D Mode (best way: start a game & minimize) cause then the Voltage for the core is raised to 3D Mode. I had to go to 3D Mode, do the overclocking, save the profile and set it as startup profile. Then the 2D mode would still set clock to lower values then you set in profile (vcore too), but as soon as it's switched to 3D, the clocks you told would be set automatically (without 3D-detection profile). Do you have the option to set "driver-level overclocking" somewhere in ATITool? So I think this is more a bug of poor explanation in all overclocking Utils manuals:laugh:.
And for my old x1950XT it didn't made a difference if overdrive was enabled, it fully cooperated with other Utils (Rivatuner too). I read somewhere that the ATI services and ccc should run, to make the 2D/3D overclocking work.

Hi to all!
I'm using a Powercolor 2900xt 512mb with Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit version. In Windows Xp Pro Sp2 everthing is normal, my video card clock speeds are 743/828 as it says on the card's manual. But on Vista, Ati Tool reads speeds 509/510. Is it just 2d clock speeds and normal? When I run a game like Crysis, do clock speeds decrease to default 743/828? I can't get Ati Tool to read in game clock speeds. I'm suspicious about if my card runs at lower speeds then default speeds.
At Windows Xp, Ati Tool runs just fine, readings are right and I can overclock my card. But at Vista, it seems messed up! Not read right and when I try to overclock and hit the "set clock" button, it turns to default 509/510 values! I'm playing Crysis at dx10, medium detail level and 2x AA but performance isn't really good at all. At dx9 mode, game runs much more smoother.
My system is;
MSI K9N Ultra mainboard
2*1gb Kingston 667mhz ram @ 5-5-5-15 533mhz
Amd x2 3800+ cpu 2ghz@2.4ghz overclocked
2*250gb Seagate sata2 hd's (raid0)

Can you help me please? Is my card normal and is it just my cpu which is the "weakest link"?

I would say it's normal that the game doesn't run with the same FPS on directX 10 as on directX 9, because more effects are supported in dx10 which need more calculating Power. Why don't you start f.ex. Crisis and minimize it (Win-Key or CTRL-ESC or ALT-Tab) and then reopen ATITool, then it should show the 3D clocks. It is important that ATITool should be closed (to tray is enough) and reopened, because it refreshes the shown clocks only then. Or get GPU-Z from here (http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/) to check the clocks while a game is running.

How can I set different clocks for 2d and 3d, can you explain? Because I couldn't remember that I've seen that option :)
Yes, I'm turkish but born and living in Germany ;).
Where Do you read the Speeds? I found out that the most sure way is, to hover mouse over Atitool Tray Icon for 2 seconds, then a Tooltips pops up showing clocks. F.ex. on my 8800GT it shows 0/0 for the clocks in Atitool main window, but the Tooltip correctly shows 720/1020.

You just have to save 2 different profiles, one for 2D one for 3D, and select them at the 3D-Detection page (see pictures). But if your driver is installed correctly it should switch automatically making this not work, but you should try yourself. The worst that can happen then is, that it doesn't raise the Voltages right and you have 3D-clocks at 2D-voltage making screen flicker, go blank etc. My experiences...

Were it says profiles it's the 3rd button called New. Then you will have to set the clock speed that you want for 2D click the button Set Clock then save it then repeate for your 3D profile except for higher clocks than 2D was set at.
So make new profile set clocks that you want click Set Clock then save.
Do as Alp Says

For those looking to test 3d speeds in game a good method is to use the latest rivatuner, the monitoring software is awsome. Open up the monitor, it will have a whole screen full of graphs with temps and speeds and such. Leave it running, play a little of your gaem and when you come back to the desktop the graphs will show exactly what happened while you were in game. when you move your mouse over the graphs it will give a vertical line and give exact numbers at that point in the line graph.

Well I'm using an club3d 2900xt 1g ddr4, and i have to say atitool's support is very limited on vista.. when I've used it and I close atitool my fanspeed gets stuck @ 4488rpm out of 5600rpm(read with everest)
So you can understand thats its kinda loud. Only way to fix it is 2 reboot.
But surely they wil come with a fix in due time. Same with rabit they working on a nice new version with support on 2900 and those new 38xx. So I can finally turn the noise down for good on these heaters.
Tried to find those offsets on my own but not very successful so far, but it doesnt rly help that I dont know what im looking and of course with x1950xts there was some like 83% fanspeed would in the bios as 17%.. the needle in a heystack for me

This used to work perfectly on older Atitool betas with older nvidia drivers, but with beta4 and the latest drivers, clock settings return to default immediately.
I tried editing the ini file to set different clocks, but that doesn't work either.
We need a beta5 immediately. :)

As far as I understand, this is normal. U can't overclock your 2D Mode clock, the driver allows overclocking ONLY in 3D Mode. And this is good, why would you need faster 2D speed. So, I had that on my 1950xt too, you overclock with a game running in the background, save it to a profile, set it as "startup-profile" (not 3D detection). Then, when profile is loaded, it still shows the slow 2D clocks, but as soon it gets to 3D Mode it's clocked to what you said in profile.
This sounds weird first, but as soon as you understand, it's the best way overclocking.
