I'm not sure if there already is a channel but here's my idea.
I've noticed there seems to be people with excellent knowledge of hardware and software here, therefore I suggest that we make up an IRC channel for this community. There is nothing wrong with the forum and they're good too but I myself think it would be more convenient talking in real-time, on IRC.
So, if anyone is up for this notify me.

It has been discussed internally, if there are enough people that would actually use it it could be interesting, though I doubt many people will use it.
There could always be a java client for people who don't know how IRC works, that's not the problem.
Convince us that people will use it and it might be considered, don't pin me down on that though, it's W1zzards choice eventually.

i'd love to see some sort of chat going .. the problem with irc is as, the previous posters already pointed out, the number of users who know how to use it.

Java IRC applet W1z, automagically logs in to the right channel. Should be easy to use for everyone, yes even women. (no offense intended)

No clue, my eve-online corp used coldfront, though I have no clue if it would enjoy a real load.
How about running our own IRC server on the backup server and set some idle limit to reduce users if needed.
Then again I've read you shouldn't underestimate the bandwidth an IRC server could waste.

4. use a super huge big irc network for matter of which net ...
5.i dunno well tos of planet but afa i remember there were someways

I think an irc channel would be a great idea, and you don't have to host your own network, just use a channel on slashnet or something, obviously you could decide what network you used yourself.
There are loads of advantages, and people can chat in the channel anyway, as well as getting help from members nearly instantly. At least you could try the idea out on a network for free or something to help you decide?

Although making his own network would seem like a good idea at first, he can't, because he'd be violating his hosting's ToS (i think) and the bandwidth costs would be a lot, when he could just use a free network instead, and just get some people to keep the channel alive, i mean, im sure if you asked, you couold find some willing operators for the channel.
