im looking on putting together a fanless htpc. i need ideas for a good quality cpu heatsink. one that does not require a fan to dissipate the heat. i wont be overclocking it since it is an htpc. i checked newegg but im not sure if the heatsinks they have up will need fans added to them serarately.

Thermalright and Scythe make some good cpu heatsinks that do not "require" a fan. If you do go with something fanless, I'd not overclock at all and order some AC MX-2 TIM to go with it.

There is also the option of going with a cooler with a fan controller, and set it very low. Some fans can truly be almost silent.

ok, the two brands im looking at right now are the two you mentioned. i have a good amount of thermalpaste at my disposal so that should be ok. what do you think about this one??

thermright ultra 120 is your best bet for a passive solution, but since its a htpc, you might need a smaller cooler like the ultima 90
