9800se > 9800pro softmod discontinued?

Hello all,

I'm really missing the awesome 9800se to 9800pro softmod from W1zzard.

It looks like the latest Catalyst 7.9, 7.10, 7.11, ... didn't receive the softmod. I read another thread (about the 7.9 softmod) and maybe the reason is that ATi increased security to their drivers and it's more difficult now to do it (with Vista especifically, i don't know if that happens in XP too).

So, I really would like to know the current status of the subject. Is W1zzard softmod discontinued? Are there currently any alternatives?

Try using Omega drivers instead of those bulky Catalyst ones.

I really doubt ATI has updated the 9800 components of the drivers in years.

Use the omega drivers but i doubt there would be any difference.

I did love my 9800se which i softmoded for years!

lol the 9800 came out quite a while ago, never ever use the latest drivers on the oldest cards, its just a bad idea, use old drivers with old cards, the newer drivers are optimised for newer cards. the olde drivers are optimised for the older cards. at th most i'd say an omega driver of cat 6.5's would be the newest you should run with.

I don't agree with that since there are always benefits from newer drivers even on older cards. For example the CCC is bug fixed when it comes to TV-Out controls (video mode - 576i full interlace) and drivers internal VMR9 color conversion (YUV->RGB) has changed several times. The performance you loose over time is insignificant. If you need more power buy a new card.

The ati drivers from catalyst 7.8 to 8.1 were buggy and had missing DirectX acceleration (for AGP cards). Ati fixed it with 8.1 hotfix release and further drivers (Cat8.2 so far). The new softmod drivers are already in W1zzards mailbox. I guess he'll put them up soon...

what i see on the webpage:

in RAR archive i found only atikmdag.sys not ati2mtag.sys needed for XP. How can i found 8.2 ati2mtag.sys ? tnx

The drivers were accidentally mislabeled. Vista and XP drivers are in the wrong package. Just grab the other one. The 8.3 are ready as well. Should be up soon.
