View Full Version : 58c AMD Athlon 64x2 5200+ @ 2750MHz
is 58c a safe load temp? I know it would be for Intels but AMD is different obviously. This has got to be absolutely fully maximum load. Folding for at least 24hrs straight 100%. Idle is around 35c.
this is stock cooler

55 & under is ideal up to 60C is safe temps, and 72C is fry point i believe

i would get a better cooler IMO
btw, pancho where are you on LoG xD
Whoa hold the phone.
That was the CORE temp. CPU temp = core temp - 15 right? So my CPU temp would be 43 at max. This was done with coretemp.
Idiling right noe at 30c core temp... so thats 15c cpu? That means like 82f idle, sounds believeable on an undervolted chip.
Well am I right in thinking that coretemp takes the temp of the CPU core and not the overall CPU temp like most progs?

Well am I right in thinking that coretemp takes the temp of the CPU core and not the overall CPU temp like most progs?Yeah, but it's the temp you want to go by anyway. There are to many other variables involved with the other cpu temp readings.
Is yours an F3 revision cpu? If so, 58 is perfectly fine, but you may want to try to get an aftermarket cooler on it. Cooler is better. AC Freezer64 Pros are cheap and effective. Use your Xmas money to buy one, and you'll be able to run 1.5V 24/7. I run my X2 6400+ @ 3.4GHz 1.5v 24/7 on mine.
cpu-z says my revision is JH-F2, stepping 2

cpu-z says my revision is JH-F2, stepping 2F2's don't like heat as much, but if it's stable, you're fine. I wouldn't let it load over 60 tho. They get a little flakey then. My F3 is happy loading to 65, but I don't like to let it get that high.
If you can't swing the Freezer64 after xmas, pm me. I may have an Opteron cooler laying around.
Hm, I probably will invest in some type of better cooling since I am folding on it ya know? Heat is bad.

Wait, so your saying I can run my 5200+ at 1.5 Volts and not worry about it frying?
That depends. A lot.
It depends on your cooler, your cpu, the stepping, the revision, and where you live (ambient temps etc).
just realized I broke 3k posts, heh
thanks for the help guys

Totally get a freezer....there like under 20 bucks now....worth it....im load at 40 Degrees at my current settings.
I plan on getting something... :)
So... when I use coretemp, it says my VID is 1.35. However my voltage is set at 1.325. I manually undervolted it. Is coretemp supposed to show the stock voltage or the voltage you're currently using?

ya thats what it does, try using a pc sensor program like everest or something :)

everest is way better IMO :), lots of features and shows correct temps and shows voltages, it gives really detailed info on your pc :)
I've used it. I like simple programs. I don't care how many thousands of MBs I can write to my memory in a second :nutkick:

well if cpu-z doesnt show you the right VID then why are you still using it xD
You posted again before I replied :o
cpu-z shows me correct info. So does coretemp.
Coretemp tells me what the stock voltage is for my cpu, and CPU-Z shows me what it's at right now. 1.312 (vdroop) from 1.325 in bios

dam :(, guess i should go cry in the darkest corner i can find :(
So how did you get to be a moderator in under 2 months? I've been here for over a year and I don't moderate a single thread :(

dont feel too bad :(, look at the amount of posts you get, and remember the more posts you have the bigger your penis is :D
i have 300 posts, you have 3000 posts, so yours is 10 times bigger xD
Yeah, but moderator's posts aren't taken at face value
normal user = face value
moderator = p^10(t) where p is posts and t is the number of thanked posts
So you have so many posts the windows calculator can't calculate it...
really though, how did you get to be a mod so quick?
