View Full Version : Temps gone down?

Well, you may have seen my threads on this before, but it seems I solved my problem.
My cooling setup is shown below. Normally, I run Orthos and I get temps of about 57|58*C after an extended period on my CPU cores (courtesy of Coretemp). We tried a lot of things to try and get things down, but Ive been stressing it over the last few days, and something has changed. I'm down to 51|53*C max- and I've increased the voltage! The only two things I've done in the last few days is remove the DVD drive and replace it again, slightly move the orientation of an internal fan at the bottom of the case (this goes nowhere near the CPU) and cleared some dust from my front 120mm intake fan. Well the difference has probably been made through an accumulation of the 1st and 3rd by my guess. I moved a few cables out of the way and this has probably helped airflow, but secondly, the dust on my intake fan was more than I thought it was. There was a fair bit, but I'm blaming my poor maintenance of this dust clearance on my old temps. I'm going to clear it out a bit more often from now on! I also cut out the rear vent on my 92mm exhaust, but I;m not sure how much this helped- I can't remember if I tested afterwards or not- so it might be another factor.

Have ambient temps changed at all? Could be another factor.

NO, in fact they're higher. My family loves having the heating on high during Xmas, and my computer backs onto a radiator. The back of it is literally 6cm away from the radiator, so it's actually hotter where the computer is during the winter. I know that sounds wrong, but it is fact. However the interior temperature of the case has drastically improved, due to these little modifications to the rear exhaust/dust clearance/Cable reshuffle.

Yeah, just checking. I'm in the same boat. The room where my PC is gets all the heat/AC from the vents, so it's actually cooler in the summer/hotter in winter. I guess cleaning out the PC regularly makes a difference (might have to check out mine now)

The amazing thing is I've had to change the voltages quite a lot, 1.500v from 1.475v! Yet, it's still cooler.

could it be the raising heaet from the rads is pulling more cool air towards you pc?

Any physics and thermodynamics I suspect would be countered by the heat output from the radiator. It heats the room up like hell. It's a small room.
