I have a problem of trying to overclock i know how to do it, but i cant get pass the bios. Its like protected.
System:
I have a
Compaq Presario SR1910NX Desktop
Processor: Sempron 3200+ at 1.8 1600 MT/s Socket 939 Current running at 1803.
Chipset GeForce 6150LE
Motherboard: Asus A8N-LA
Bios: Phoenix AwardBios v6.00PG vr. HP-CPC-42302e31
Power option:Always On
And how do I turn off the Cool N' Quiet without going into bios and how to unlock the bios so I can overclock it?
Goal: 1.8 to 2.5 or more

Most Dell's and Compaq's bioss are locked. Maybe if you press Shift+F1, or Ctrl+F1, that sometimes unlocks hidden bios features. Not sure if you'll ever be able to overclock man, you might just need a new motherboard, 939 is dieing quick man.

good luck bro that bios is locked up tighter than fort knox. I personally owned one rescently until I gave it to my mother in law.
The only way to OC that thing is software....good luck there also as most OC tools dont recognize the PLL(?) on that mobo.

Yeah, besides, I looked, and you got a mATX mobo+case. That kinda sucks, you could just buy a "new" AM2 motherboard and an Athlon X2 4000+ for about 100 bucks at newegg. Stick that in there, and you'll be happy dude.

Dude his system is 939 , RAM comes into play as well. I say he is just for lack of a better term screwed, unless he has a retail copy of XP, and access to a clockable 939mATX mobo!

I've got an oem copy of WinXP, I've upgraded my computer about 15 times, and reformatted about 15 as well, all in the past 6 years. I've had to call microsoft ONCE to get a new activation number, and it was relatively painless, took about 5 minutes total, they don't care. Really, I think any "pirate" could call microsoft, and tell them "yeah i just upgraded my computer, now it says i have to reactivate" MS gives you a HUGE number to type in, and everything is fine. Really though, I'm serious, you can activate over the phone, and they never give you a problem. They ask "is this the only computer you have this copy of windows installed on?" tell them yeah.
As for RAM, I didn't see at first that his system uses DDR400, add about 25-30 bucks for a gig of DDR2, and he'll be good to go. Unless he REALLY wants to overclock, then everything starts to get pricy--good ram, good mobo, good cpu cooler.
This is why you don't buy OEM computers. ;)

Yeah I kinda given up on it already..Tried clockgen and it doesnt work...-,- and ill probably not waste money on it..just might by a new comp=/. So if I upgrade the mobo it might enable me to oc it in bios?

The specs for the mobo said that the memory comp is pc3200 ddr so how can I ddr400?

How can you DDR400? that makes no sense...
PC3200 = DDR 400
It's whether or not you have them in Dual Channel mode, but anymore, it's all to easy to do...and if you only have 2 DIMMS for memory, then you will have dual channel. On 4-Dimms, they will generally have 2 colors that correspond to 2 channels.

If you were to get another MOBO that is mATX and a clocker , it would be possible, but your OEM copy of windows will not work on another mobo. You would need to have a retail copy of XP to do the swap successfully!

most aftermarket motherboards have acessible BIOS'. Even manufacturer is a bit different, though, and some brands have more features than others. Some have more features than you will ever really need.
The vast majority of OEM motherboards, though - the kinds made specifically for Dell, Gateway, Compaq, eMachines, etc - don't have any types of OC features. It keeps n00bs who aren't sure of what they're doing from damaging things and/or voiding the warranty.

not neccassarily . . . I've been able to install the verions of WIN XP MCE that came with my eMachines onto my current rig - although, I did need to have the XP liscense number (from the back of the eMachines case), and I had to re-activate . . . plus, do a ton of driver removal/installation (cause the .inf drivers were entirelly different :D). Just saying it's possible . . . with a ton of hard work, keeping your fingers crossed, and making sure you're caught up on all your prayers!

^^^^ exactly, but with the amount of knowledge slready shown by the OP, I dont think any of this is really in the realm of what he is capable of , without lots of help and guidance.
No offense intended by this post. Just that it isnt plug and play like a XBOX, microsoft likes to mess with ya alot!

none taken - and I completely agree about MS being a PITA with their OS.
aznboi - you're best bet, would be to hound the ever-lovin crap out of whatever company built the system. Although you're rig probably came with a "restore" disk, which will only just reformat your HDD and re-install the OS as per factory specifications; you do own a registered/licensed copy of the OS. Technically, you bought the OS when you bought the system, and you're supposed to have an install disk for it. If you get on their nerves enough - email their customer support over and over, ask for the message to be viewed by a supervisor; call their customer support numbers and ask to speak to a supervisor, etc - sooner or later they'll give in and send you an original disk just to get you to leave 'em alone.
Otherwise, they'll charge you retail price (or a discounted retail price), for a licesned, brand new disk.

I'm not sure but how about reset the BIOS by removing and replacing the CMOS battery? Would that unlock the BIOS??

Best thing to do: Go to the ASUS website, download the correct BIOS for your board, flash your current BIOS, and it's unlocked. :toast:
Only thing you'll lose: The Compaq splash-screen.
at your own risk. careful with BIOS updates.

The battery on the mobo will come out of its holder. It has a tab on one side that needs to be released to get it out. And for the second part , no it will NOT unlock the BIOS!
Also flashing his bios with the exact mobo bios he currently has will be of no help to him either.

Dude just use Clockgen to overclock your CPU and ATITool for your GPU and in most cases if you know what you are doing you should be fine.
:toast:
I had to do the same thing for a while with my OEM HP machcine. GO TO HELL HP!:p

I tried, but the cool n quiet is stopping me from overclocking.
Is there anyway to turn off cool and quiet without going into bios?

check add and remove programs , there is a possibility it is in there as a windows update. Make it show updates by checkin the box at the top...only other way I can think of!
