Stole this from another forum ive been a member of for 10 years pcpitstop.com.

edit.

You need to enable the PAE extension, by using the PAE switch in the boot.ini file.

Go to System properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings

-> Edit

this opens the boot.ini for editing..

the last line should look like something like this :

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /PAE /NoExecute=OptIn

Edit and restart..

Now, when you go to System properties you should see The Physical Adress Extensions enabled.

Your mileage may vary.

You need to have system hardware that supports more then 4 gigs of ram.

PAE will kick in automatically on XP Pro. I personally use the /3GB switch myself

Have you tried this yourself and saw it work? I don't think any 32-bit OS takes 4096 M of RAM. There, you'll see the memory controller going bonkers, the BIOS mis-allocating conventional memory and a scripted screw-up with data corruption.

Your right it cant actually use 4GB it ends up at 3.25GB. PAE sorts out the allocation I believe.
I mean I only chucked another 2Gig in mine because I saw that Crysis was eating up alot of memory and thought, "well why not you have the RAM lying here"
