Why does it use that much RAM for a game?...

Run memtest on the ram itself to verify it is in good condition first. If memtest fails , try each individual stick to see which is the problem. Either way if they are bad , both will have to be shipped back as a set to RMA then if needed.

Is he playing single player or online?

Flagship fixed many issues with the SP 0.6 Patch, including memory usage issues.

See this thread (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=47392) for the link to the patch.

Patch the game first and them come back if it didn't fix it.

Check Ram voltage (vdimm) settings in BIOS and if ram passes Ram test Sneekypeet mentioned then maybe check "Virtual Memory" setting and adjust them accordingly based on new amount of Ram installed.

My bet is it's the game. It's crappy.

The pagefile might be too small for the amount of ram installed - good link http://www.facompanion.com/Tier4/PageFileXP.htm

enable pagefile, make sure your pagefile size is 2gb+ and you need that disk space free too

optimally, the size of a pagefile should be 1.5x the size of physical memory

Try giving some pagefile if on XP.No matter how much RAM you have XP needs to pagefile when more than like 480+ RAM is used.Thats some crappy memory management IMHO.

Also set the max and min values to the same - to prevent page file defragmentation - i got 2Gb ValueRam and have the min and max value on 768Mb but that is not optimal for gaming - maybe the double would be - i have monitored page file use while gaming and concluded that even not Doom3 or GTA San Adreas uses ever more that 1.5Gb of the page file - the less page file you use the more ram will be used - and the PC will be faster - so experiment with it.
