View Full Version : P35 Platinum Install question...
So I purchased a MSI P35 Platinum Motherboard from NewEgg the other day. It arrived today, I popped in my chip... followed all the instructions in the manual... plugged in the power and...
Bam. A single red light appears. The manual says it means "Standby" mode.
Does anyone know how to get the Motherboard to get out of standby mode, and into "working" mode? :)
No other lights appear. No fans turn on. No beeps. No anything. Just that single, red, light.
Any hints?
I guess I should also mention that I did a search, and read through a few threads about this Motherboard, but nothing I came across helped.

Are you sure you have all the little pins on the motherboard header in the right spot? (eg, HDD LED, Power switch, reset switch, etc) Are you sure that ALL cables are in the correct spot? Proper power going to the video card?
Well, it's hard to tell if the HDD LED hookups (with the positive and negative switches) are correct. Is there a way to tell. Which way should the writing be? Is white positive?
I'll try switching them around to see if that helps.
I took out the video card, and the ram.. just to see if I could get the fans to start up.
I have the main POWER1 cable plugged in... two SATA hard drives, and 1 DVD drive.
I also installed a new Intel Core 2 Duo... so maybe I can put in my old P4 chip, and see if that makes a difference?
Would the red standby light come on if the Motherboard was dead?

For the LED hookups etc. Think of it this way. When you put them in, the writing on the connectors should be facing the TOP of the case. That's the correct way to put them in.
As for the rest. Unplug everything but a single SATA HDD, and your graphics card and ONE stick of RAM.
Here are my system specs... I'm rebuilding :)
Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz (E6750)
P35 Platinum Motherboard (MSI)
2G Kingston Ram (DDR2, KVR533D2N4/1G)
ATI HD 3870 Video Card
Antec 500W Power Supply
Antec Nine Hundred Case
WD 320G Hard Drive
==============
Let me go try and just plug in the SATA HD, my PCI-E Video Card, and see what happens.
Just to confirm, I only need the 24-pin connector, and the 8-pin connector plugged into the Motherboard, right?
And I've flipped the HDD LED, etc. a few times, with no effect.
I can post pictures of what my system set-up looks like, if that helps at all.
Alright. Just plugged in a single HD, hit the power switch, and nothing. Just the red "Ready" light.
I tried my old power-supply with the new setup, and I get the same results.
I'm thinking that my Motherboard is just dead.

Reset cmos using instructions in motherboard manual, then try booting again.

I took the MoBo out of the case, set it on a piece of cardboard, hooked up all 3 power connections, put in 1 stick of ram... hit the power, and nada. No fans, no nothing, except that little red light.
I've gone ahead and packed it up to ship back to NewEgg. Oh wells. Thanks for the help anyways, guys!
