If i get an intel e2180, it has a 10x multiplier. The processor is 2 ghz, so that mean the real FSB is 200 mhz.
intel is "quad pumped," so...
If i buy DDR2 800 ram, this runs at 400 fsb, thus clocking my CPU at 4 ghz?
If i buy ddr2 675 ram, this runs at 337.5 fsb, thus clocking my CPU at 3.375 ghz?
thus, there is no point in seeing if purchasing ram that can overclock if I want to run a 1:1 cpu fsb:ram ratio, right?
Would you recommend to buy DDR2 800 or even 1066 so i can run at a ratio where the CPU fsb is less than the DDR2, thus running my CPU at max speed and having incredibly fast ram?

it would be like this internal clock 200 x 4= 800mhz fsb,200 x 10 = 2000mhz external clock
memory im not to sure about as i havent ran a ddr2 intel system in quite awhile, personally i would get 1066 ram and a decent board so that you can max your overclock on your chip without worrying that your memory is going to stop you

So if i get ddr2 675, i would have to overclock to get to stock, if i got ddr2 800, then i would be at stock if i didnt overclock. if i got ddr2 1066, my cpu would run at 2.665 ghz?

No, your CPU is not dependant on the ram. Meaning that the ram will run at the correct multiplier and your CPU will always be 2GHz, unless you overclock the CPU. The ram is tied to the CPU clock frequency and since it's DDR, it 1mhz on the FSB will be 2.

ok that makes a lot of sense. i just read on some other forum some guy saying that using a ddr2 1066 with an e6850 would make it run at 4 ghz and was like !?!??!?!?!?! i was surprised and wondered maybe some crazy stuff had gone on since i last messed with overclocking which was on an amd socket 939, which is my current system. Is this good yet valuable ram for overclocking an e2180? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227124

nice ram..if u wanna clock i would pickup crucial ballistix almost guaranteed D9's and those are hand picked ic's

haha funny you say that, I have both the OCZ and the ballistix in my newegg cart, and im tryin to decide which to delete before i purchase. Is it worth the 20 dollars extra for the ballistics?

the 1066mhz ballistix for $99 bucks is a steal!

how do i get the ratio 1:1 with 800mhz ram and x10 e2180 2ghz intel?
what do you recommend?
266x9 gives me 2:1 ratio
i heard 1:1 is better
how can i go about doing this?
i dont have privlages to post in the overclocking area
i want to go upto 2.6ghz or 2.8 -
my current overclock leaves me at temprature 25c idle

Lower your cpu multi, set the fsb to 400, and the ram ratio to 1:1. A 7x multi on the cpu will give you the 2.8 you're after.

also what voltage shall i use on mem/cpu?
when i clocked to 400x7 my p35c gigabyte dsr3 motherboard didnt like it and set back to default - im guessing this was a voltage issue as there was no post error
im thinking 0.2 for mem? as auto voltage settings already applied 0.1 - maybe it didnt boot cus the cpu voltage was a miss?
i have no idea what voltage to run my e2180 at 2.8ghz from 2ghz
this would be really cool if i can clock up to 2.8 and get mem ratio to 1:1 - i would give you all a massive xmas thanks

alot of people think that dual core 2ghz means that it's 2x2ghz=4ghz. where they got this idea I don't know. I just let most of them think it.

You should fill out your system specs in the UserCP for this site. Knowing the exact hardware we're dealing with will help us help you
