How long?

I've recently been having someoverheating issues and it turns out that somehow my video card was overclocked.

The core is set at 600 and the mem is at like 800 but whenever I try to switch to default and hit set clock my monitor goes black.

How long should it take to switch back to the default?

it should instantly return to stock specs, some (the really slow ones) the monitor turns black then goes back to normal, but it's only black for like a second.

I let it go for 15+ minutes and still nothing.

I'm using an ATI Radeon x1650 in an HP Pavillion a604x if it makes a difference.
