What's a safe temp for a 5200+? What if I got up to say 65c? This is in coretemp btw. Coretemp takes the temp of the core of the cpu, not the overall cpu temp... and cpu temp is coretemp - 15 so if I got to 65c with coretemp it would be 50c right?

65 C at full load wont do any harm.. bit on the high side but it will run there..

yeah if it goes any higher you're in the red zone

Too high for me but should be ok.

I'd say don't push it past 60 to be safe :-X

yes but this is the core temp not the cpu temp... at a core temp of 60 the cpu temp should be 45

Like many of us have said, a little high but should be fine.

yes but this is the core temp not the cpu temp... at a core temp of 60 the cpu temp should be 45No, it doesn't work that way. Core temp is what you want to go by (as long as it's getting accurate readings). 65 is a bit too far. I'm surprised you don't get errors at that temp. Most Windsors error before that. Mine won't run over 61/62 without errors.

Best to get the temps lower. It won't necessarily kill it, but the odds of instability are much greater at those temps. Not good for folding, hat. lol.

Safe temp for a Windsor 5200+ : 62 C (full load)
Safe temp for a Brisbane 5200+: 66 C (full load)

But the CPU temp isn't the only thing you should keep an eye on. IIRC you're using a NF 590 SLI board. It has a toasty southbridge if you're using SLI (because in SLI, the SB plays lane-arbiter for the second card) and when you OC the CPU, it also affects:

1. The HT links between the north/south bridges.
2. When running stock speeds, the NF 590 has spread-spectrum enabled 0.25% for the FSB, with OC this is disabled = EMI (you just might hear a faint high-pitched noise coming from the system too (I'm not talking RAM noise).

So keep an eye on your chipset temperatures too. SpeedFan has the ability to monitor that and the NF590 has temperature sensing diodes too.

BTW, make sure the chipset stays under 55 C

My 5200+ OC to 2.9 at 1.45 volts dose not go over 40C core on load, but hey if your computer functions at those temps then its not as bad as it seems.
