GDDR 1, 2 and 3 graphics memory explained

The list of differences between GDDR-3 and GDDR-1 memory is remarkably short. Basically, where GDDR-1 modules required 2.5V, the newer GDDR-3 chips use 1.8V (Micron) or 1.9V (Samsung). Also, the GDDR-3 specification calls for an on-die termination. Both of these improvements allow the chips to be run at much higher frequencies. Samsung demonstrated the modules with the highest frequency to date, running at no less than 800MHz (1600MHz DDR). In the future, expect to see chips with even higher clock speeds. The newer technology has one disadvantage compared to GDDR-1, namely much higher CAS latencies (CAS read latency). In practice, this means that GDDR-1 modules will be slightly faster than GDDR-3 chips at the same clock speed.

Regular GDDR is already forgotten about. The higher frequencies can't be matched by a slightly lower latency. The 1.2ns chips Samsung has showed us were very impressive in my opinion, running at 1600Mhz DDR. I can't wait until we see 2Ghz ram tbh. And regular DDR3 (for main ram) is also coming, very appealing :D

1.4, actually. But sadly, yes. Compared to the 7800GTX it is, positively speaking, "not outstanding". To say the truth, very dissapointing. But what do you want? Why the hell did ATi only use 16 pipelines? Damn it, that's asking for trouble. Sad but sorry.

Can't remember where, several online sources... But now that you mention it, 1.4 has a theoretical max of 1400 so that's pretty tight.

An amendment that should be noted: Some GDDR1 modules actually require 2.85v, namely the Hynix chips.

well the x1800xt has been proven to be crap the 7800gtx beats it in games ect so ati are struggling atm :/ the r520 as its known is only just beating the like of x800xtpe and x850xtpe

None of the reviews are official, so you can't just conclude that. But it sure doesn't look very good for ATi.

ChAce, I found this (http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/r520firstlook-e.htm) saying its 1.26. Could be wrong but thats where I heard it from...

Everybody saw that link :p But on the same time I heard it wasn't reliable. Anyway, its possible that it is indeed 1.26. Would make sense, thinking about it.
