775/1060 :D with Artic Cooling Accelero S1 @ 32C idle, 44C load on the Asus, ATM just 740/1085 on the palit 1GB with Palit's own Zalman style cooler.

So far I've only pushed my Palit to either 700/999 and 2000 Shader or 725/999 1940 shader.
She was artifacting a bit at 2000 shader, so I lowered them and bumped the core a little. Netted me about 100pts in 06.
Now, if only I could get nvflash to work right for me, I think 2000 might run a bit better. I'll play some more after I get some rest.

im on a stock Inno3D 8800GTS 320, it's crap (selling it) but I got it for free, when I get my 8800GTS 512 I hope to get it to 850/2000/1000 with a vGPU mod and a water block. only thing I don't like about the G92's is the crappy memory.

xt198, I have the e6750 also and a 90mm zalman on it with a 120mm fan blowing out the back. I can't seem to OC it as much as you. How did you get your's running so high? I have an Antec Sonata III case and true I have a lot of things producing heat, but I think I have decent cooloing. I have 3 raptors inside and 2 8800GTs and 1 120mm back side fan, 2 slot coolers (one of them is a 2slot cooler from thermaltake).
Any help on reducing heat and upping the cpu speed is appreciated. I have tried OCing the card, but I haven't pushed too far yet. But without the slot coolers, the small 5% OC I have done now used to lockup the PC. But now the 5% is working stable. The CPU is at 2990ghz.

High overclocks are fun and all but I found on my 8000GT if the GPU clock went much over 701 performance to a drastic drop. 3DMark01 went from 40,128 at 701 to 33,355 at 712.

Please forgive the dumb question. Is there a new bios or firmware for the XFX 8800GT 512? If so, what does it do? Hopefully the bios makes it run a bit cooler. Thanks in advance.

We're using Nibitor to edit the stock bios for more voltage, then flashing it back. I use Riva Tuner for fan control.

Just got 750/1920/1050 out of her, and still tweaking.
Here's the screen from my 3dmark06 (15252) run for it.
For some reason, GPU-z wont detect the shader speed on my Palit.

I dont know...
How much high can u overclock your cpu is not just depends on the coolers.
I got Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard, 4x1gb Kingmax 800mhz (on 878mhz) and a e6750 with stock cooler (intel box).
Soon ill get new rams (1066mhz kingmax) and a new cooler (Arctic-Cooling Freezer 7 PRO) to a cpu.
Now with these stuffs, i can push my cpu to 3,6Ghz but its getting hot, and it isnt very good... But i think with that new cooler and with the rams i will able to push it up to 3,9 - 4Ghz - on air cooler.
Overclocking your cpu is really depends what kind of ram u got, and first of all, how many MHZ can it handle. (1066 -> 533fsb (8x533= 4264mhz) so GOOD LUCK with it :D
Get some Corsair ram, a good motherboard, and a nice cooler

No worries, I have established that it is not the reference PCB so I am a bit stumpped now, I will take it to me friend who works next door to me (electronics technician) and ask if he can find the right places to mod the card correctly for a voltmod, I dont want to risk guessing wrong!

just bought a reference XFX 8800GT today, started oc-ing and ended up with this bios on it.

at that speed paired with a core 2 duo at 3.2ghz its good for ~12,500 3dmarks and 435 fps in lightsmark07...
could go higher with more volts....

whoa....
As far as modding the bios, you need Nibitor. Get it here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/881/mirrors.php
Unzip and run Nibitor. Go to Tools>Read Bios>Select device and select your card.
Go to Tools>Read BIOS>Read into File.
Save the file as stock.bin
Next, in Nibitor, go to File>Open Bios... and select the file you just saved.
Now, go to the Voltages tab, and in EXACT mode, you should have 4 drop down menus. And I change all of them to 1.1V (or the highest offered).
Go to File>Save Bios.... Save your file as voltmod.rom
Now, follow the flashing guide found here: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles//overclocking/vidcard/34/10 , but download NVflash 5.57 instead, and replace the command in the guide with this: nvflash -4 voltmod.rom
Nvflash can be found here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/819/mirrors.php

Try end the process called NV.....??, cant remember what it is called, its the NV driver that will show in task manager....process......I think I had a similar issue on another game sometime ago, I googled and it talked about a conflict between Rivatuner and the driver, If you dont have rivatuner......just ignore me and I'll go back to sleep! it may not work in any case for this particular game but it dont hurt to try.

EDIT: Oh, and submit your stock BIOS to the Video BIOS Collection using GPU-Z. There aren't any XFX 8800GT BIOSes in there. Otherwise I would've just modded one for you and posted it.

Hello Wolf,
I noticed you have exactly the same card as myself and I was wondering if you could give me a the first few steps to take to over clocking. I am also curious about your temperature and which program you used to achieve that o.c.
thanks
@ Yin, the first step i took was installing Rivatuner, what a wonderfull application. 2.06 is current and awesome.
the first thing i did in rivatuner was set the fan to direct controll 100%, and to boot with that setting, the stock cooler is decent (on an XFX at least cos we have the fan with a bigger hole and 2 more blades than early reference cards) but imo only when set to 100% constantly. its a little noisy but ive got like 8 fans anyway so who cares. not to mention id rather put up with a few more dB rather than 20 more degrees.
now ive had alot of gfx cards and o/c'ed them all pretty much so i didnt really go in small increments, the first o/c i did was bump the memory from 900mhz to 1000mhz, as i knew these chips are rated at that speed it shouldnt be a problem, and it wasnt, it ran fine.
i had read most 8800GT's can do 700mhz core, with that in mind i shot for 650 straight up, then went in 10mhz increments to 700, which ran 100% stable, i left the shaders linked to the core to get 700/1750, which works out at 702/1728 in reality, the shaders do have more headroom (to about 1830) but this card flies anyway. and in my experience with 8 series cards, the card is more stable with the shaders linked.
if your interested there is a heap of shader ocing things i can get into with ya, as ive found they make a huge impact on performance, on my 2 8600GT's (also XFX and came with zalmans on em) i got the core from 600 to 700, but the shaders went all the way up from 1310 to 1836, shooting the card from ~5000 3dmarks @ stock to ~6700, but that was an ordeal to get stable, as i said if your interested we can get more in depth.
once i had acertained that 700/1750/2000 was 100% stable i made a 1.1v bios and flashed it on, so all rivatuner has to do now is controll the fan.
my temps are roughly 44-48 idle and 58-64 load with fan at constant 100% which really isnt too bad at all for a single slot stock cooler.
so in short Yin i would say, Install Rivatuner 2.06, bump the fan speed, and then start oc-ing slowly and one thing at a time, dont shoot for 2000mem and 700 core at the same time, go one then the other, then i would highly reccommend flashing your card with a OC'ed bios, as it eliminates the card needing to be software oc'ed, and is imo more stable @ the same clocks.
just go slow, be patient, and dont shoot for unrealistic speeds, not every card will do 700 on core, and some will go further... especially with further cooling + vmods... (later....)
at any stage i can help with more rivatuner advice or bios advice, i can even make one for ya (still learn more doing it yourself). and if this was too much/too fast for you, i can dumb it down and we'll go in baby steps.
hope i have/can help m8

ps. sorry for the long post, and the reason i thanked you is because you should never be afraid to ask for help.
@wolf
thats great information, I'll start OCing it when I have more time, but I don't really intend on OCing it to that high yet because i just got my card and well i don't wanna kill just quite yet just in case. Thanks for the great information.
no worries mate, im glad my experiences can help you. and i know what you mean about not wanting to kill it, i ended up killing both of my XFX 8600's thru inexperience in volt modding, (lucky for XFX double lifetime modder friendly warranty and no questions asked :P) mistakes which i learned alot from :P but still i wont even risk it on my 8800, not till i am sure of myself and the technique.
if theres ever anything else, dont hesitate to ask.

As far as modding the bios, you need Nibitor. Get it here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/881/mirrors.php
Unzip and run Nibitor. Go to Tools>Read BIOS>Read into File.
Save the file as stock.bin
Next, in Nibitor, go to File>Open Bios... and select the file you just saved.
Now, go to the Voltages tab, and in exact mode, you should have 4 drop down menus. Change both Extra and 3D to 1.1V.
Go to File>Save Bios.... Save your file as voltmod.rom
Now, follow the flashing guide, but download NVflash 5.57 instead, and replace the command in the guide with this: nvflash -4 voltmod.rom
Nvflash can be found here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/819/mirrors.php
Dude thank you for taking the time to deal with a nubby like me, the nibitor was way over my head and scared me because of the DOS prompt window. Got it all fixed up scored a 13287 with 721gpu clock 1042 memory and 1802 shader all on stock air cooling stable, and along with all that i found that i could clock my cput (e6750) to 3.8 @ 1.5v stable and at 31 degrees Celcius idle 34-35 load, even tested it for 30 minutes with both cores at 100%! I'd post the pic but the link went dead or i didnt do it right cuz im a putz either way THANK YOU!!!!:respect:
bios modding for a gfx card o/c is SOOOOO the way imo, and its alot simpler than one mite think, can be done in under 10 minutes easy if youve got a floppy drive and disk.

Question. What about the Vista people? I dont want to make say an XP boot disk and run all this and have it screw something up. How would a Vista user make a boot disk for this and does it require a floppy drive?
I know these are all noob questions. Bare with me. Flashing BIOS's freak me out.A floppy drive is the best way to do it. And no, using a boot disk won't effect Vista. Vista doesn't even load when you boot to one.
ok old clocks were 702/1728/1998 (effective)
new clocks are 720/1782/1944
i backed the memory clock down a little as i was getting memory feezes in driver parallel lines and test drive unlimted, and in doing that i saw the core had a little more headroom, now theres absolutly no instability whatsoever, have ran ATI tool artifact scan, games, benchies and nvidia geoforms all for over an hour easy.

very nice. is there any mods for my card
@ Mussels, for a core of ~750mhz, you should be able to hit a shader speed of 1700-1900mhz, i just think 1566 is low for 750 core.
the G92GT comes at 600/1500 stock so even linked together the shaders should be around 1800mhz, did you underclock them intentionally?
personally on my G92GT i lowered the memory speed just a smidge to get a higher core/shader, so the clocks are 720/1782 linked.
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/v3kxr/
just thought i'd mention it cos u mite not be getting the most out of your o/c is all. my experince with shader overclocking is that they make a very decent difference in games too, so upping the shaders by ~300mhz should get you 250-500 3dmarks.
today i oc'ed the shaders on my 8600GT XXX from 1360 to 1620 and memory from 1600 to 1800 and 3dmark 06 jumped from ~5500 to ~6500, i jsut want to see you get the most from your card.

Its bios modded, and yes i unlinked them.
The ram can do about 40Mhz more, and the shaders were too fussy to test with software overclocking (it would just jump 100MHz in one go, it wouldnt let me fine tune it)
It got danged quick with that core tho :D

get rid of nTune, and use riva tuner. I have a evga card, an ntune does wonders for MB's and GFX cards.
@ mussels, the shaders are fussy because they only clock up in certain increments, luckily i found a list of said increments so that if you or anyone wishes to shader o/c the can go one by one up the list to test for stability. As far as i know, this list applies to the shaders on any nvidia 8 series card.
| 1404 | 1458 | 1512 | 1566 | 1620 | 1674 | 1728 | 1782 | 1836 | 1890 | 1944 | 1998 | 2052 | 2106 |
http://www.madshrimps.be/articles/%5BOCTB%5DGalaxy8600GEoverclocking-massman-20058.png
also here is a pic showing the user set gpu and memory frequency's vs the effective frequency (also applies to all 8 series cards i believe)

MEM

and like i said around 750 core you should be aiming for 1700-1900 on the shaders, it wont help as much as going from 600 to 750 core, but it should add 4-8% going from 1500 to 1700+ on the sp's, a worthwhile gain imo.

I'm getting a Corsair HX620W on Monday and I'm gonna try the BIOS flash ting to get a lil bit extra voltage :)
Correct me if I'm wrong but do you:
1. Dump current VGA BIOS using ATiTool
2. Open BIOS file with NbiTor (or whatever it's called)
3. Edit BIOS file to add more voltage, higher clocks etc using the same program
4. Save new BIOS file
5. Copy new BIOS file to floppy then boot off floppy and flash from there
I'll research it a lot more over the weekend so I don't endd up with a very expensive paperweight lol

I'll probably try on Mon or Tues. Those are usually my days off. A 1GHz attempt has already been on my "to-do" list. lol.

i think my CPU is doing some serious bottleknecking here, im not liking my results in accordance with my GPU settings. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: New motherboard on the way, im sorry but a 5000+ BE cant be held back by a rather shit motherboard. excuse my language but im really annoyed after seeing some of the other results on here.
theres gotta be something going on there with your set up. First off 5000+blk should be able to hit atleast 3ghz with no problems some have even gotten it past 3.4. I finally broke 13k in 3dmark06 but thats with SLI but single card i was getting around 10k-11k and that was before the 745/1834/1k overclock
