Thats so sad.. :p
I've done it yet again: a 306 increase :rockout:
http://img.techpowerup.org/080416/3DMarks.png
Using Vista 64 SP1: 2nd time i tried to overclock using 8 multi instead of 9 and 1st time i increased the PCIe from 100 to 110.
This new motherboard ROCKS: i'm using less voltage to go higher although, with the load line calibration, under load, it's higher then with the P5K-SE.
@ Dr. Spankenstein
Yes: i went higher, but with much less volts.

A good way to quick test out the new drivers is to just run "Firefly Forest" in 3d06. If you notice low fps or stuttering, the 8.4's are no better than 8.3's. In which case 8.2's are still the XP king.
I hope these new drivers work better.... I just got my quad core today!

there are 3 bios files in the zip file.
i just want them edited so it will clock the cards at 850 instead of 837.
Ahh... lol
I've just made you new ones, using a Sapphire .77 Bios (newest I've found) with the brands edited to HIS and Diamond and the Clocks set to 851/1206.
If you want me to edit the ones you linked I'll do them too. I tested both the HIS Turbo Bios and the Sapphire .77 bios and the only difference for me was the Sapphire allowed more volts (when modded) for overclocking.
And here are the 3 bios you linked me to. All edited to 851MHz GPU. I left the ram and voltages alone.

I think I just realized that the cards for my scores were actually at 877 core. They just don't want to go above that in CCC. I think Rivatuner was giving me the wrong numbers. Looks like I'm going to be flashing my cards to a bios with more V's. Thank you fitseries for a nice quad. Runs at 3.8ghz on air no problem.:D

use the HD3870OC Bios from Dr., its awesome!! I just flashed both of my VOLTMODDED cards last night, and it went great! I can OC in CCC to 1500 core!
Im stuck right now, my cards are limited to the speeds of my proc, a 3.8ghz quad just cannot keep up!!

It clocks great! Im having issues right now where Im hitting a wall no matter how high I push the cards. I think its limited by my proc though. I cant seem to get it to post at 4ghz.
At the same speeds it performs the exact same as my stock bios
Im looking into options that I might have to free up some money so I can get a qx9650, or maybe a 9770. All depends on how much money I can get my hands on.
I ran the cards at 877 and I get about 20500, run them at 945, same, and 999, and same thing again!! Its frustrating!!
Im gonna try to drop the multi to 8x and up the FSB to as high as I can, and see if that helps.
Any other ideas??
@Freak, did you ever end up getting the e8400??

doing good for me, I have 2 runs under my belt. Im quiting for tonight. I have to buy a but load of water cooling parts, my fricking proc is only at 3.6Ghz and the cards are at 960/1250 @ 1.5v, and here are my load temps
CPU Cores - 75C
GPU temps - 59C
These are load temps while running OCCT and furbench @ 100%.
Damn heat! I put my hand on the reservoir and its very very warm. Like almost HOT. I have to cool down that water somehow.
BUT... 8.4 are working great for me! I cant complain about 960 stable on both cards! 21k for everyday running speeds!

Well, before you fix it, I have been able to improve my score by a few points. I have been quite impressed with this new GEIL PC2 6400 that I have just gotten. I thought I was gonna have problems with them since they require 2.1 - 2.3 volts (online they said 1.9V) and my Asrock mobo only tops out at 2.0, but I have been running them at a FSB of 310 at 1.9 V with settings as tight as 3/3/3/6 and they have been great. I read a few reviews about them and they also have been said to run as high as 1090 with 2.1V and timings of 5/5/5/15. I am hoping to use them with a Abit p35 pro and my e6700 by the end of the year, just saving up for a pcie card and new psu!

Freak, you might think Im crazy, but you should volt mod your cards!!!
I can game stable at 960/1296 all day! Its awesome! I have run 3dmarks successfully at 999/1280 - just limited now by my proc
That way you could just bump the voltage to 1.4 ~ 1.45 and run 900+ stable.
I run 960core on 1.5v. I havent quite worked out the lowest possible voltage yet, still have to do that!

I know, I know! I gotta represent the Phenom even though I KNOW its got nothing on the Q6600. But I'm only at 2.6GHz on two of the cores. If I could somehow get this to 3.0 on all four the scores would be much closer.
EDIT: I JUST went back to Vista. I just realized that I never installed the latest updates, I'm running the base install. That may be why my scores arent so great. Isn't there a Vista multi GPU hot fix?

The vmod came loose again (I don't know whether it's crappy solder or the wires not taking the solder properly) and by the time I'd attempted another repair there was nothing left to solder to. The pin head sized solder pad was so badly damaged from repeatedly trying to fix it that I just couldn't do it again.
I'm going to keep trying, I'm sure I can find some way to do it, but if I carry on atm I'll just end up breaking the card out of frustration...

Man, these 3dmark scores with single 3870's make me tuck my tail between my legs. I dunno if its me or not, but I got 50fps in 1680x1050 Medium quality in Crysis and I've seen comparible q6600 powered rigs get around 40-50fps. But then their scoring 13k with a single card while I'm scoring 13600k or so with a crossfire setup. Strange?
Dr. Spankenstein
04-20-2008, 08:08 PM
Unless you are concerned about benchmark numbers, your rig is still killer. Your "real world" numbers attest to that!

^^^ true. I was hoping to score closer to 15k when I got the second card in. I'm in no way sad about the addition, i just benched Crysis and I'm definitely happy. In 1680x1050 HIGH quality, I got 33fps. Thats pretty damn awesome because I normally play it in 1440x900.

Well me and Dr. have come to the conclusion my diamond has Crapped out on me.
James, i don't know if this is still open, because i sure hope it is.
I am very disappointed with diamond products, and from my experience, i will not be buying a diamond product again...ever.
You were and have been VERY helpful and i appreciate this. I need this card fixed again, but this time, i don't want it back. I want a check for my expenses, and the cost of the video card. I would much rather have a check by Diamond Multimedia than a replacement card (again) so i may purchase another video card from another manufacture. I have trouble shooted this from every possible option, to drivers, to over heating to even to much core clock speed. i have dropped the core over 100mhz usint ATI tool and set the fan speed to 98%, yet it still crashes 3dmark 06 and artifact in Team fortress 2, a very low end game!
Im not sure how you will go about doing it, but please, do your best to satisfy a very annoyed customer.

My new issue, it doesn't happen all the time, but turning the monitor off and back on will fix it. Or minimizing and maximizing the game a few times. It only happens when i launch a 3D app, but not all the time. Only when the sceen flashes a couple times when you open a game, I'm thinking this is more monitor related though?

also, my his card wont post atm. its blowing my mind! i had the TT installed, ran the test, uninstalled it and installed the vf-900. now the system hangs on DET VGA BIOS :twitch:

no problem :)
Top shelf right now(for ATI series) would be 3870x2 or just a 3870(cheap, but great mid-range part)
This forum is just a comparison of all HD3000 series cards, if you want to get 06 and post your score, post it here !! - > http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=25995
Make sure to put ADD THIS as the subject of the post. And that forum is not for discussion, only results. So throw it up there, and read the first post very well to get good instructions on following the forum rules. Check out the discussion page too, there is alot of useful info there :)
EDIT** You have a 7950GTX right?? Sad thats not all that hot anymore :(
I have 2 7800GTXs, paid up the ASS for them, and now they are pretty much worthless! I ended up selling them for 250 bucks for both. I paid over 1k for the two of them

well you may as well hang with the 3870s till the release of the 4800's, why not. Then you will have some decent graphics power. I wouldnt game with anything less that a 3870 anymore. Especially for the price :) 150 bucks is a low to mid range price. And I consider the 3870 to be a mid to high range card. Anything that can do 16k(even though its voltmodded and water cooled) is a high end to me :)

depending on what cooler you put on your card. what card was it? the his usually give the proper cooling system for it. if your just putting a diff fan on it then it most likely will mess up. i went through 3 his cards untill i found out that the only cooling i could change it out with was liquid.... im sticking with fan on my new HIS hd 3870 X2

pics  i got so many pics!!
Ok so here goes! i turned off my comp, pulled the card out, got my alcohol out, rubbed the tim off, applied some MX-2 and seating my TT duo orb. installed fine, (had a little issue, used the wrong nipples and it was a high on one side and low on the other) The card kept shutting down because the core kept overheating (this happened 3 times :o)
Installed the card, and heatsink, ran fur bench for 10min topped at 72c.
Turned off the computer, and removed heatsink. clean tim with alcohol let it evaperate then proceded to install vf-900. stuck it in. and nothing.

Now that i found my overclock to be stable, i can push it further then ever before, but not by much.
I used the 3DMark Vantage Hotfix 8.4 drivers for this run but they seem to have an impact on my score:
- Test 1 -> lower high FPS
- Test 2 -> lower low FPS
- Tests 3 and 4 -> didn't notice any difference
- Test 5 -> completely different, visually speaking
- Test 6 -> didn't watch it ...
I'm using Vista 64 with SP1.
EDIT
I had to increase my tRD in order to stabilize the OC: maybe that's why tests 1 and 2 behave like that.

A Sapphire Dual Slot. This model is a replacement for the reference cards which went out of production in february. Sapphire SKU# is 11122-05. Its Heatsink looks like that on the 7900GTX, covers GPU and RAM and has three heatpipes. Fan is my avatar pic :-)

I'm using Ati Tray Tools, tried Atitool first, but could't get my GPU higher than 864 MHz. Found out, this was caused by Atitools CPU-Load which draw about 130 Watts from my PSU. With ATT i ran artifactscan for 25 minutes at 918/1323. Haven't checked ingame yet, but will do for sure.
BIOS is 079 from Sapphire Toxic modded to 864/1251 atm.

CMR DiRT with an avg. of 45, Crysis avg. 28 everything high, with 4xAA, 8xAF, AAA, VSync and mipmap high in 1280*1024. My 3870 breaks 50 degrees now with my cpu at 3,8. Looks like 918/1323 is gamestable for more than an hour.
This gfx card seems to be the best thing i ever bought. Really not sure wether i'm going to voltmod one day.
EDIT: I really wonder how thermopylae_480 managed to get 8072 with same CPU clocked lower than mine on a 3850 @ 715/945 because i only got 8431 with my 3870 @ 918/1323. What's his secret? The other way round: what's wrong with my system?

WOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHH.... i'm infected, can't stop pushing my poor ole P4D :D
9420 with 264 MHz FSB x 16 = 4220 MHz boxed... going further with goggles, as long as there is no smoke coming out. Think i look like Dr. Spankensteins avatar now.

Sorry for posting so shortly after my last one, but i couldn't resist.
EDIT: tried a suicide run at 4500 MHz with my P4D on stock heatsink @1.5V, gaining 5 fps more in the first two tests but it throttled down reaching 75 degrees in third. Looks like i can't get past 9480 on P4 with boxed cooling :(

Thought I'd post my scores with my new beasties:
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/3879/3m06wc9.jpg
specs (in case you can't read the pic):
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.8GHz
Crossfired HD3870 @ 850/1251 MHz
that crossfire score is a tad low as compared to what I expected, I think component and ambient temps have a bit to do with that . . . further tweaking will commence this weekend (it'd help if I could run this damn DDR3 above 1600MHz!!).

Congrats on the new toys!
thanks! Hell, I had enough for a 3870x2, but after the HD4000 announcements, I had decided to wait for 4870x2 . . . then this deal came along, and hell, I couldn't pass up 2 HD3870 OC editions at $260 for the pair :D
and I still have half the savings left that will eventually go towards a 4870x2 later this year, and a new PSU. Crossfire X all the way! :rockout:
Still a little dissappointed at that 3m06 score at those speeds . . . needs more tweaking. <<I wonder what speeds I can get these 3870s to on their stock coolers . . >>
Planning liquid cooling for the CPU next month, so I'll be able to get this quad over 4GHz, and that'll drop ambient temps as well. Now if only I could get this DDR3 to accept speeds over 1600MHz, I'll be happy.
That, and if winter would hurry up and roll back around!

Looking at these screenshots... many of you guys are running XP and not Vista. Any particular reason any of you are not running Vista?

Xp yields better 3dMark06 scores and it works better with crossfire. At least up to the 8.4 cats.

vista sucks as far as audio is concerned - I like my audio hardware acceleration too much to give it up, and XP's ability to properly support it.
That, and I don't own a DX10 capable game that I feel is worth my time. Only DX10 game I own is Crysis.
hmmm . . . flashed both cards to 850/1251, although they bump themself back to 837 core. Did this because it seemed that in Crossfire, only one card was running at 850/1251, while the other was running at stock 800/1170 . . . this 3m06 score kinda confirms that in my mind:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/756/3m0602kl1.jpg
I was shooting for a 4GHz run, but couldn't boot to the desktop :ohwell: This rig would get as far as the bootup screen before crashing, and further vcore adjustment would net me a POST message "CPU overvoltage error" . . . meaning I might have to vmod this board to be able to reach 4GHz, and I'll defi need a better cooling solution on top of that.
But, there is hope for 4GHz, as the system was stable at 450MHz BUS at x8 multi:
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/9454/cpuzqn5.jpg
. . . stable enough to even make a 3m06 run - but scored very high 17000 at the lower CPU speed. I wonder, though, if these cards are already peforming 100% and are just scaling with the CPU . . . would make sense with both cards running PCIEx16 2.0 . . . any thoughts?

It just throws that error when you get above a certain voltage, period. Mine happens above 1.6V actual. You can get rid of that message by going to the Hardware Monitor page in your bios, going down to the cpu voltage, selecting it, and set it to ignored. All apps will still read the voltage an everything, it just gets rid of bios monitoring.

thanks, I'll check that out later, as I haven't ventured into hardware management except to turn Q-Fan and that crap off.
If that's the case, I might just be able to get the CPU to slap 4GHz on air, at the very least boot to the desktop. Temps permitting, of course . . .
still, though, 3.8GHz at 425 BUS so far ain't bad, 3.6GHz at 450 BUS is decent as well - I'll be happy as hell if she will run 4GHz at 450 BUS. I figure I'm still quite away from hitting the limits of this proc . . . I just need better cooling (next month). :D
