View Full Version : X800 series driver problems!!!!!
I have been reading around on the BF2 site forums and have come across people saying the new 5.8 Catalyst drivers are bad for the X800 series?????
Anyone else hear anything about this....cause i am having a ton of problems with my X800 XT with BF2 and Guild Wars. It seems that lighting effects cause most of the problems.

Using the new 5.8's here since day one. No problems at all. (X800 Non Pro, Non XL, 12 pipes @ XL speeds+)
What do you need to set in the BF2 options to recreate these "problems" ?

SANE: I get random freezing in BF2 and its annoying as hell. The Game runs so smooth, the it will just freeze, but the sound continues for a about 2-3 secondes, then my hard drive does some seeking, and finnally I have to hard reset. I tried numoruse things to get it working like, different graphic settings, disable fastrights. I think its video releated or something to do with video cause I got a new board and CPU and it does the same things. So your not he only one. I have read on the net in lots of places with people having the same problem. I think its a lot to to with the game based on Nvidia cards, and there are conflicts with the ATI drivers. About Guildwars, I don't have it, but I will ask my friend to see if he has any problems because he has a X800pro. For me though it could be soemthing else, like I have to get a new PSu cause mine is drooping on the 12V rail. Another thing I could have is heat, cause it seems everytime it freezes, its really hot in my room. But I ran my card full out in Atitool for an hour and not a single problem. I also don't have enought ram so that could be my problem.
But maybe you try disabling Fastrights, and check your aperature size. If your card is AGP. :)

I've had BF2 "freeze" a couple of times. When it happens the hard drive is being accessed like crazy. The PC is unusable for upto 30 seconds. If I leave it then it has always given me control back and been no further trouble. Put it down to the HUGE swap file it needs to swap out the game memory (1Gb+) when windows decides that it needs to be done !
well...thanks for the info guys. I know many other people have had problems with BF2. It ran fine today. Heat is not a problem and I still dont think it can be power related because the output levels on mine are fine and nothing goes wrong when playing Doom 3 on Ultimate settings and Far Cray cranked up.
I really just wanted to know if anyone else had found any info on the driver "problems"
5.8 claims to fix BF2 visual problems but maybe it isnt quite right. Who knows.....lol.

5.8 only claims to fix one problem for BF2 as I'm aware.
Dice need to fix the other 500 !

BF2 is the only game I have probelms with. All of my other games, I can run max graphics and play for hours and they run smooth as can be. BF2 Plays just as smooth, but it sometimes it just freezes and its a friggen pain in the ass. They have to release a patch or soemthing to make it more compatible on ATI cards. I was looking through other fourms and you hardly see a Nvidia card having problems, its always ATI based systems. But i has to be driver/softwarre probelms with the gmae, cause if your running it smoothly with good fps and it just freezes and there not much heat, it can only be software. Also when the sound of the game keeps going after you freeze. They have to release a patch or hopefully with cat 5.9 comes it will work a little better...

Most peeps I see having Issues across the web are Blaming the Games Crap Code for the Issues.....makes Sense when you can run any other game In the Universe with Minimal Issue and then have nothing but Headaches with BF2.
I don't think It's a Driver Issue.....I'm In the Circle of thought thats It's the Games Code to blame....Plenty of Nvidia Owners Complaining as well.
Heres to Hoping the Patch can Fix It. :)
