I have X800XT AGP modded to X800XT PE and 9800Pro 128MB with XT PCB modded to fully featured 9800XT 128MB with Overdrive, temperature monitoring and fan control but for me is very interesting to follow the progress (or the lack of progress) in moding of R423 cores. That's why I decide to write something in this direction.

After reading this:

Posts: 4 Sapphire X800pro Vivo to 800XT Mod misery

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I have bought my card form newegg the card is Sapphire X800pro 256M Pcie VIVO 2ns. I see many tutorials about the flawless AGP x800Pro to Xt conversion. I have heard the vivo cards not lasercutted. This is not true.. The old mod which is based on the R420 core not working anymore. I have removed the fan and the heatsink from the vga. Woooa the R423 core was laser cutted. I used some silver conductive paint to bridge out the laser cut. I have measured the resistance and that was good. After i reassembled my card and started the atitool... Still the same 12 Pipes. And now... Flash some bios...

I have tried many bioses Like. ASUS x800xt pcie, powwercolor X800xt pcie, BBA X800Xt pcie. After flashing the ATi driver always recognise my card as: X800Gt or the older drivers X800Se. This is bad the Gt contains 8 pipleines only... So... The magic is in the BIOS...... The old R420 core id is: 4A49, The R423 core id is form Atitool: 5549, but in the flasher (flashbios) i get 554B?

So the conclusion is: The New Sapphire X800Pro VIVO is not moddable with this easy way (bios flash and shorting the laser cut. The sulution lies in the BIOS... I think....

Any ideas...????

And some post in Guru3D.com from the creator of RivaTuner about such mod I have the following ideas which can not be realized without the support from the owners of X800Pro's VIVO PCIx and X800XT PCIx.

1. Can somebody post detailed pictures of both cards (front and back) without heatsink ofcourse? It will be needed pictures of the PCB and cores.
2. To check once again that there is no difference in resistor configuration on the PCB and the core!!!
3. (It depends on the flash utility creator/s like flashrom and modified flashrom) to look in different direction "to get out of the box" searching in other methods but based on real things (information) provided by us the owners of these cards which need to unlock remaining pipes.

I don't belive that ATI (even they want it) will produce cores with 8, 12 and 16 pipes. Somehow they disable the "broken" pipes with laser cut and something more (probably on the new cores and/or PCB with false resistor - what I mean: instead 0 om 100K resistor for instance which is equal to laser cut)

We have to find out what is this something more?

This gives me other idea to measure the resistance of all resistors on the core 12 and 16 pipe and to compare.

Step by step we could find out the ATI's secret which probably is simple like bean  . It have to admit that they spend a lot of efforts in that direction (stopping the modds) and it seems that they almost succeed but there is no place for desperation we have to continue digging :D .

Success to all of you!!!

If any ideas share them on the forum :)

W1zzard, you were short and clear. I know that you have much much more experience of me and most of the users like me but the hope dies at last as you know. Maybe the ideas shared above are not correct even crazy but I think that this could be the way. The opposite means that ATI already won the game with moding. (unfortunately)

Thanks

most (nearly all) pcie x800 pros wont mod :(

but i have encountered a few people who got pcie pros that where only locked via the laser cut

and they where able to mod and unlock :)

(most are locked in the core aswell :()
