But ddr is expensive now, no offense but with how much you have right now I would just wait and get ddr2 possibly ddr3 next time you upgrade.

I have 2x1GB sticks of CorsairXMS DDR-400. Good stuff. Interested? :)
EDIT: It's this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145575
Latency is better than that PQI set as well.

random- im looking for sumtin with heatspreader that i can OC so i can get at least 2.8ghz on my x2 3800
common ram heatspreaders (thin metal sheet) makes the ram hotter, and less overclockable

I have 2 sets.
1. A-Data 2 x 1GB DDR 400. CPU-Z identifies the ram as G.Skill. Guarenteed to run DDR480 at 3-3-3-8, 2.85V on good boards and 3-4-4-10, 2.85V on okay boards.
2. Crucial 2 x 1GB DDR 333. Has Godly Samsung chips on it. Guarenteed to run DDR480 at 3-3-3-8, 2.85V.
I have tested on 3 different boards. ECS K8N SLI, Gigabyte K8N SLI and Abit NF8. On Abit A-Data did DDR480, 3-3-3-8, 2.85V.
Make me an offer.

are you saying that heat spreaders are bad? and create more heat then get rid of the heat? i always thought they helped.

They do help, as long as they are made out of copper or aluminum. I think pt was referring to the cheap steel kind. Don't see those very often though.
Airflow is also important. Heat spreaders need air current to work, otherwise they may be counter-productive.

every those that are just a sheet of metal (never saw cooper sheet ones)
even with airflow if you take the hs off it would be better
the corsair dominators and ocz reapers are good :)

Air is a far worse medium to conduct heat than metals, such as alu/copper. So you're saying now that a CPU is better off running bare than being cooled with a heatsink-same story here!
Heatspreaders > Air cooling, however if there is heaps of airflow versus heatspreaders + no airflow, then thats a different story.

I agree with PT here... as long as they still use that thermal tape between the chips and the heatspreaders they are doing nothing more than insulating the chips rather than dissipating the heat. I have 2 gigs of Kingston HyperX DDR400 that overclocks further after I took off their blue spreaders. I had to back my speeds down to around 240 MHz for a CAS of 2.5 with the spreaders on, now I have them at 2.5-3-2-0 @ 250 with them taken off (and they even used sort of a hybrid tape/thermal grease solution between the chips and heat sink). What everyone also fails to remember is, true while metal conducts heat better than air but how do you think the heat is removed from the metal spreaders??? air! Heatsinks do their job so well because they have much more surface area than the chip underneath them, greater surface area means more contact with the air and the more heat the heatsink can dump off into its environment. In my opinion those completely flat spreaders do not offer much more area than the ram chips and PCB (which also acts as a heat spreader), insulate the chips from the surrounding air, and block any direct airflow on the chips themselves. I will state though that if you're using a good cooler (on the lines of the new thermalright ram coolers with the heatpipes) and use something like MX-2 as the interface material, AND you are pumping quite a few volts through your ram then spreaders would be worthwile.
I also agree that heatspreaders are useless.
I just touched the bare memory chips on my DDR2 running DDR600 4-4-4-12-1T @ 2v and it was barely above the temp inside the case. This is running F@H SMP at 100% and telling it that it can use up to a whole gig of memory, right now my commit crarge is 486MB. However with the Vantec heatspreaders that were on the memory, the heatspreader would be very noticibly warm to the touch, but not to the point where it's uncomfortable to hold them.

Thermalright would state otherwise :slap: As long as the airflow is sufficient to remove the heat decent heatspreaders SHOULD remove hotspots on chips but those thermal pads DO seem to insulate somewhat, I guess thin thermal tape should be used instead :rockout:

No problem. Anyway, good news, I just got offered a trade for the exact DDR2 modules I wanted. Worked out beautifully. So no problem. :D
