and right now i am using thsi media
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817287006
but i have tried it with memorex, verbatium, and sony disks. and the fastest read while ripping is 2X and the fastest burn speed i get is 3.2X anyone have any ideas? my no name IDE dvdrw will rip and burn a dvd twice as fast as my new sata one. i put in 2 movies last night and started them at the same time and the ide was done and i was 25 min into the movie before the sata one was done. should i rma it, or throw it out and buy a new one? i bought it back in sept so i am not sure if i can still rma it or not. but this thing has never impressed me.

You obviously aren't running a raid setup. Do you have AHCI enabled in bios?

can you please explain as to why a raid would be better?

Never said anything to suggest running a raid setup. I was just saying that he obviously isn't running one. ;)

yeah i have tried every option from 16X on down to 2X. and still burns SLOW
well i am using the raid sata on my board for my 120GB maxtor sata drive (Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAOD0 SCSI Dosl Device... acording to device manager) but no i am not using raid. i only have 4 sata's on my board. 2 red witch use the promise fasttrack 378 controller and 2 black that use the via sata. the dvd burner is on the regular sata (via) connector. (the promise fast track would not recogonize it, prolly cause it is not a HDD)
and as far as the AHCI in the bios i am not sure, i will reboot after posting this and see. but i dont think i have seen it anywhere. only enable/disable both via and promise and raid and ide mode for the promise.

it came with a cd that had an firmware auto update program, but when i run it it says that my drive is not compatible with the firmware update. and when i go to the site and dl the right firmware file and run it it says the same thing.

yeah that is the one i have, and i am wondering if it is a setting on my computer or in bios, or if it is just a bad drive. that is the exact one i have.
also i cant play battlefield 2142 with the disk in this drive. works with BF2 and all other games. i have to play 2142 with the disk in my IDE drive...
