OCQuadNick,
How many memory chips does your card have? Are there empty memory solder areas on either front or backside of the card?

I have the 2900 with the 256 Bit 512 Mem and wish I would have read where it said 256bit and not the 512bit. I swear it was not on the website when I bought it because my intentions were to flash it to an XT. Now I cant do that and I also cannot seem to overclock it what so ever. Seems like it is locked at its settings. I have tried Riva, Ati tools, AMD guru etc.. With no luck what so ever. Hope I do not discourage you from your new card, it is very fast its just that I wanted to hit the 10K 3d Mark with my somewhat new system and all I am getting i2 7K right now. ;)

Isn't the GT the only 256bit 2900 series card? I didn't think that there was a 256bit PRO.

*bump* I'm researching for a friend of mine who bought a 256-bit HD 2900 Pro PCI-e. Anyone find anything? I saw that the TechPowerUP GPU BIOS collection didn't include any 256-bit 2900 XT BIOSes and google isn't coming up with much. Maybe just a modded BIOS?

Somebody here mentioned a forum he found that had a bunch of custom 256-bit bios with raised voltage and clocks. I'll search around.

I tried a 512MB to 512 bit and it did not post... Had to flash back to the original.. I am going to try and flash this thing to something before I return it. I bought this from newgg and it said 512mb 512 bit when in fact it was a 256 bit.
Restocking fee? Bla just tell them it is defective and you want your money back....

Or don't take delivery of it, just ignore the doorbell, refuse it or something, it'll be sent back, and I don't think they charge restocking fee, or at least, someone did that before and they didn't, they did a full refund, but make sure that's the case fo you first.

Update, tried out this modded voltage bios and had good results in the begining but then an issue. I was able to Core clock my 256bit card to 785 core and 1800mhz on the memory using RivaTuner. Anything above gave me an dx error and 3D would crash. I ran 3d mark and got close to 12k, just a tad under in the high 11's. I then ran it in a loop for hours and all seemed well. But then after going back to desktop doing some computing and running 3D mark again I noticed some way low FPS. I then launched ATI Overdrive to have a look and the messgae was Unavailable. Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, uninstalling RivaTuner gave me the same results with "Overdrive" unavailble error. So I flashed back and all is back to normal...
Not sure what that was all about...

OK, this is what I had to do to get my 2900 pro OCed to 790 core and 1000 on the mem. First off you need to flash your card to a new modded bios, it is very easy to do and all the tools are floating around here. This is the max for my card. Any higher on the core and the pc locked and any higher on the mem and I got artifacting...
Now:
You must disable the CCC or catalyst control center from booting up with windows. Use regedit or whatever mean you know how to do this. For some reason with it enabled it would only allow me to get 700/850, even with modded bios. I had to install Riva Tuner only to control my fans speed as the built in stepping is to slow and the card would overheat. Upping the RPM of the stock cooler is a must or the card overheats and locks.
So 790 core and 1000 mem with 1.25 volts and fan running at 70% full time while gaming. I have to say COD4 fps has gone up considerably and this card is ok to game with now where at stock clocks it just plain sucked...
If you want details on how to do this or my custom bios let me know and post here...
Hey, there isn't much difference between 256-bit and 512-bit. Look at the 8800gts 512mb it totally pwnz the ass of the HD 2900XT. If you want, try overclocking to 740/2000 (ATi 2900XT reference clocks) and if it is stable (1 hour scan for artifacts should be sufficent), and you give me your BIOS, I will edit it with RABIT to those clocks and you will effectively have a 2900xt...

? not sure what you are offering... I have edited my bios via RBE and can edit to any clock/volt (1.35 max) I chose. Now what I really really need is a way to edit the fan speed steppings as the stock are way to slow and the card overheats. Find me a way to do that and that would be awesome as I would not need rivatuner at all and then the fan would not have to run at a constant speed. AS it is now 70c only has the fan running at 38% and it takes to 90c to get it to step just under 50%, way to slow. I need this thing in blow dryer mod at 70c... I have no room for aftermarket cooling...

you can the bios editor i posted. but i think it only works on 3k series
I'm offering to edit his BIOS to reference 2900XT speeds if they're stable in ATITOOL. No messing around with any software programs... its just there.
