I downloaded the Catalyst Drivers Software Suite 7.12 off of this site. The problem is, it won't install completely, after a while right before the installing begins, I get this error. Look in the attachment. The current Catalyst version I have is 7.7, and the control center never opens up, although Catalyst's ATI processes and stuff are running in the as seen in the task manager. I really need to update this, can anyone help me?

Have you installed .net framework 2.0? Also, for an AGP card you are better off with 7.7, AGP isn't supported by newer drivers yet as far as I'm aware.

Use Omega drivers for AGP on WinXP :)

Are you sure you downloaded the correct version (not Vista or 64-bit)?

Following these simple instructions before installing new drivers, makes upgrading ATI Drivers real easy;

Click the link under Software Instaltion for your card.

I'm quite sure. In my Add/Remove programs it says I have .NET 2.0 Service Pack 1, and it cannot be uninstalled. Even in Safe Mode. And I can't reinstall 2.0.

Try the drivers from Sapphire:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/support/drivers.php

Download the APG only drivers, it is Catalyst 7.10 and the one that work best with my
HD 2600XT AGP - 256MB DDR3. Newer isn't always better

You should also be able to install this version of Catalyst 7.11 from here, if you want to
try how it perform:
http://www.visiontek.com/teksupport/drivers/7.11n_XP_driver.html

There is a way you can install Catalyst 7.12, but I advise against it because it doesn't
work properly on AGP cards, believe me - been there, done that :-(

But here is how to if you want to test it:

1) Install Catalyst 7.12, when it has extracted all the files cancel the installation.

2) Browse to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-12_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_55811\Driver\Driver\XP_INF

3) Edit the file CX_54435.inf
and under the line "ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9588
put ind this line: "ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9586

4) Right-click My Computer => then select Properties => Select the Hardware tab => Click the Device Manager button => Display Adaptors => Right-click ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP => Update Driver => Choose Install from a list or specific location => Next => Choose Don't search. I will choose the driver to install. => Next => Untick Show compatible hardware => Click the "Have Disk" button => Browse to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-12_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_55811\Driver\Driver\XP_INF => open CX_55811.inf => OK => Coose ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP => Next

But remember! the catalyst 7.10 for APG only from Sapphire is the one that works the best
with my 2600XT AGP - 256MB DDR3, and I recomend that you use that. :)
