Thanks a lot. Just did a quick install, it seems to work fine, although the temps might be inversed (GPU is < environment). No time to check that now, will investigate further tonight.
Thanks again for all the hard work.

My video card crashes with your latest 6 when I go from overclocking the core and memory to around 300, and then going back to default (which worked fine in your earlier versions). BTW, I love the tool, gives me sick framerates with cs source, this video card is wonderful for a laptop.
thanks,

YAY! Video card temps, fan speed control show up in atitool! Thanks W1zzard!!!!!!!!
Vid Card: ASUS A9600XT
Problems:
1 Default 100% speed (no atitool, etc) shows as 42% under 'Current speed'.
2 'Try to keep GPU temp. at: is greyed out :(
3 Temperature monitoring seems to be on holidays in the bemuda triangle :(
4 ATITool shows 'Fixed percentage' 100% as 'Current speed' 26%
5 ATITool shows 'Fixed percentage' 26% as 'Current speed' 26%
6 ATITool shows 'Fixed percentage' 20% as 'Current speed' 20% but my estimate is ~75% actual speed (ASUS smart doctor)
6 ATITool shows 'Fixed percentage' 15% as 'Current speed' 15% but my estimate is ~60% actual
7 ATITool shows 'Fixed percentage' 13% as 'Current speed' 13% but my estimate is <||=~50%
You get the idea.
Thanks for the great work W1zzard! I really appreciate it!

No obvious changes for this build for me.
Still 0% fan speed and 0 degree's ENV temp on front window other than that all seems fine.

The temps are still reversed on my 9800xt and i don't get temperature readouts when the 3d view is running, any ideas?
thanks for a great little tool

Hey Wizzard!
Any recommendations for clock settings for my ati mobility radeon x300 for my core and mem so that my card doesn't crash when going from overclocked back to default settings? It's not a big deal, just thought you may have a suggestion and again I LOVE this software. What is this programmed with? VB? Java?
Regards,
shaun

atitool is programmed in c++ with mfc, the driver is pure c
you set an overclock with your x300 and then click on default and it crashes? if yes, what does it list as your default clocks? are you maybe loading the default profile which might have some invalid data in it?

Hi again
The temps seem to be detected fine on my Asus 9600XT. They are not reversed, as I initially thought, and Asus SmartDoctor also gives them in the same order.. It's a bit weird though to have GPU 38C, Mem 44C with the stock cooling... but I'm not complaining :D
Thanks

Hi, after reading Sorin's post I checked again and according to Everest and your own systool the temps are reversed, its been like this since beta 3.
Thanks for an otherwise brilliant little app.

clockit: which card? systool temperatures are reversed in the current version ;)
open the 3d view and observe which temp rises faster .. that's core :)

Hi W1zzard,
The card is a Sapphire 9800pro modded to xt, the temp rises faster on the environment sensor. The temps show correctly in Everest as well as Systool build 575. Also, when i run the 3d view the temperature readouts stop until i close the 3d view.
Cheers for now, Dave

I fixed it... I think the values for the default profile that I kept from the previous beta of 300 core and 216 mem were invalid so I just removed the default values from the old profile log, restarted atitool, and then the program automatically created a valid default. I created a new profile too before I used the old over-clocked settings, so it's possible the old overclocked profile was causing the problem as well.. Either way thanks for your ideas/help!!

Wizzard - in fan control - setting "try to keep GPU temperature at.." DOES NOT WORK. The fan goes to 50% and stays there regardless of the temperature as my card gets roasted.
It did not work in beta 5 either - but I believe it worked in beta 4.

Clockit are you sure about it?,because on my asus 9600 pro the temps it appears to be ok (not reversed). At least according to Smart Doctor utility.

W1zzard, i was so gladd to see the temps, but i didn't notest that acctualy are some problems with the fan control settings, as it follows:
fixed percentage - curent speed
5% - 4%
10% - 10%
15% - 14%
20% - 20%
25% - 24%
30% - 25%
35% - 25%
and so remains the current speed despite any fixed percentage i wrote.
Another issue:
when try to keep GPU temp at: between 0-35 C the current speed is 25%.
Above 40 C - current speed 5%
And one more thing: Dynamic based on GPU temp - current speed allways 100%
Thanks a lot, i know you are trying hard.

Hi all
W1zzard, I have about the same symptoms as Law (Asus 9600XT). Mine stops at 23% when I set a fixed value. Keep GPU temp doesn't modify the fan speed at all.
Ah, one more thing, it gets to 5% when I set 100%, so "keep GPU temp" might actually work for you, Law, it just tries to set 100% and sets it to a much lower value (ouch!).
BTW, the default (max) speed read when I disable fan speed control is 37% , although I clearly HEAR it spinning at full speed (about 6800 RPM  )

PS: The Asus guys seem to give you a lot of trouble, W1zzard ;) Are they using different(proprietary) sensors and stuff, or what?

Hi clockit.
To be sure they are reversed, I think Asus's Smart Doctor should have the final word. It's not such a bright app otherwise, but it should be able to handle reading the sensors in the correct order ;)

When I try to change the settings at all (even to the "default" setting) the screen goes black, but there is still a mouse cursor. The only way to get the screen back that I found is to restart the computer. Not sure exactly what the problem is, but I thought I should mention it.

monzures: that is cause by an invalid gamma setting .. i thought i fixed this .. delete your profiles.ini in the atitool directory then try again .. that is assuming you updated from an older version?

09-02-2005, 01:47 AM
Well I looked in the ATITool folder, and there appears to be no profiles.ini . I reformated my computer about a month ago and this is the first time installing ATITool on the new install. I know ATITool worked before that (version .24 or so). Anyway, thanks for the help!

yes stupid asus keeps using different sensor chips on their ati cards.
I will need a volunteer with an asus card for testing fixes to the fan control issues, contact me on instant messenger please.

If only ASUS would play nice.. they are notorious for being difficult for support.

they probably save $0.001 per card by using that other sensor, so i understand why they are doing it

hi,
i downloaded ATITool just to see what all the fuss was about without actually intending to overclock. i have a Built by ATI 9800pro 128. the problem is by little brother (3 years old) started mashing buttons and clicking everywhere this morning and ATITool shows that my clock speeds are now 391/340 rather than 378/340. my system has been hanging every few minutes or so and i have to manually reboot and even though i click default in ATITool, the speeds return to 391/340 after every reboot. please help me set everything back to normal. thanks,

Uninstall ATITool?

i uninstalled it as soon as i noticed the clock speeds were high in everest. any other ideas?
W1zzard
09-02-2005, 02:45 PM
did you have atitool load at startup? atitool can only change clocks when it is loaded .. if you dont load it, atitool cant change any clocks
sYnister
09-02-2005, 02:59 PM
yes, it was loading automatically when windows started but even now that i uninstalled it, Everest shows the the clock speeds are still higher than default.
W1zzard
09-02-2005, 03:24 PM
then it's not atitool that's causing your problems .. did you enable overdrive in the ati control panel / catalyst control center?
sYnister
09-02-2005, 03:27 PM
i dont know where overdrive is, but im sure you know what you're talking about and it may have been something else besides ATITool. thanks for you help anyways

When I try to change the settings at all (even to the "default" setting) the screen goes black, but there is still a mouse cursor.
Hi monzures.
Your screen goes blank because of incorrect gamma-settings in the profile "Default".
Here is a little workaround:
Enable the Gamma Control (in "Settings" -> "Gamma Controls"), click on "Defaults" (Gamma: 1.0 /Brightness: 0 / Contrast: 1.0), then click on "Save" and select the profile "Default". Now you can disable the Gamma Control.
Now the correct gamma´s were saved in the profile "Default".
