My house mate got a 360 with a hdmi a while ago and last night he got a HDMI cable to play at 1080p, but his tv wont go to 1080p even though the manufacture says the tv is 1080p.
the cable was one he pick up from salisburys last night in the way home, so i dont know which HDMI version it is, but according to mainy website 1080p was supported from HDMI 1.0
TV model is Hitachi 42PD8700U
Well all the HDMI, since v1.0 (the first version) supports 1080p. If you sure the tv can also do 1080p, the fault lies on the 360. Perhaps there is some video settings you have to fiddle with.

Maybe his TV is 1080i and not 1080p.
There is a difference between the 2.
1080i is pretty much the same as 720p.
Could be...I know that some Hitachi units natively run at 1080i, but have a built in upscaller to 1080p.
